Sanctum on the Green Hotel

We've just had a 2 night stay in the garden lodge. We loved our room, the hotel, restaurant and the location. It was perfect to visit Cliveden House (the purpose of our stay), Hughenden Manor and Marlow. The hotel was apparently taken over in Jan 2024, so is under new management. We think it was the Manager/Owner we spoke to on our first night, who'd also checked us in. He was very friendly and helpful. Our meal in the restaurant was excellent, every course was superb and we loved the ambience. The continental breakfast served during the week was spot on and more than enough to keep us going til lunch. We didn't get to use the pool, but there's a pool bar being built, so this will be a great hotel to use in the warmer months with those 2 facilities. The bed and bedding in the garden lodge was wonderful and very hard to leave! We'll definitely return, possibly with friends next time, as there's lots more to explore nearby. We stayed in a courtyard room and it was perfect. Parking is close by, and we were let in despite being an hour early. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom facilities were good. The only improvement would have been a heated mirror as the shower fogged the mirrors up, but otherwise it was fine. The staff were all very friendly, and that really was the highlight. We had lunch in the pub and that was very good, with an excellent apple crumble pudding. We went to an event and came back in the evening half an hour after the kitchen had closed. We were peckish, but did not expect more than a drink and a packet of crisps. Sam and Matt, the chefs, were in the bar and made us a very good roast beef sandwich, that was nicely presented in spite of it being late. We did not expect this, and it was all done in the most charming way. Becky in the bar was also excellent. We left feeling that we had experienced true hospitality. A great stay.

We were given a court yard room which did not have a window, just a door. It was cold when the heating was off, tgen too hot and stuffy with the radiator on. There was water noise outside the room and the door curtain did not close properly. Breakfast also very average.

We stayed for just one night, a special wedding anniversary celebration. We hear the premises has just been taken over by new owners. A gentleman in an overcoat and peaked hat helped us with a Firestick for our bedroom TV, we weren’t sure who he was, he didn’t introduce himself, sadly, but we were grateful. As he left for the evening, whilst we were sitting in the bar, his instructions to Becky were that she mustn’t let the fire go out, we liked that. Becky had already introduced herself, she had checked us in, shown us around and made us feel incredibly welcome and at home. We’d booked the bed, breakfast and dinner package and we ate our evening meal by the fire feeling very looked after by her. The Japanese style food was great, the wine list was very reasonable. We were in room 8, the ceiling light needs replacing, but the room was warm, clean, quiet and very comfortable. Although we had the option if either of us wished, to upgrade our continental breakfast to a cooked one, we thoroughly enjoyed the warm pastries, fruit, yoghurt and cheese and ham. We asked for butter which arrived in two pats put on to the table instead of on a dish, and I’ve seen from earlier reviews that we could have asked for toast, which I know my husband would’ve appreciated. But in fairness, most residents arrived for breakfast pretty much at the same time so we understood any misgivings, breakfast was great. What was missing if I’m to be a little bit picky was a thanks and farewell as we left, it’s just that it would’ve wrapped up that lovely little package that Becky had opened the night before. Hope to come back again in better weather to also use the pool.

Absolutely lovely place! Having looked on trip advisor and seen positive reviews we thought we would give it a go. Having stayed very recently for 2 nights we were genuinely surprised by the odd negative review, which we felt was totally unfounded and frankly this hotel should rate higher on Tripadvisor. The location of the hotel is beautiful, very near to Cookham and Marlowe and just a few miles from Henley. Outside is a lovely walled patio where you can have breakfast and dinner, the seating is very comfortable with gentle but adequate lighting. The gardens are lovely and the pool area is excellent! The hotels interiors are a delight, lovely beamed areas and squashy comfortable furniture. We stayed midweek and as the website stated it was a continental breakfast which was lovely and of excellent quality; a great selection of fruit, slices of cheese and ham and warm croissant, toast and yogurt is also available. The breakfast is brought to you and should you need anything further it is no trouble. The decaf coffee for me was excellent as it was quite strong not like so many other places. We ate our evening meal outside on the patio; Japanese inspired and delicious, the fish/ chips with accompanied tomato/ cucumber really added to it. I had the king prawn ramen, which was plentiful and fragrant - the best ramen I’ve had, accompanied by a spicy sauce - brilliant! We stayed in a deluxe room at £90 per night, very comfortable, the bedding was lovely and it had good pillows, which can be pretty rare. Big bathroom and massive shower with mood lighting which made us smile. To be fair when looking for somewhere to stay we wanted good quality but reasonably priced and we certainly found it!!! The staff were absolutely lovely, very helpful and personable. We had lots of chats and lots of smiles!!! All in all it was a real joy and delight and we would certainly return!!

Don’t waste your money. Far from luxury, karma hotel. Tired pub with tired rooms. Evening food was pre prep, catering pack. Haven’t replied to my email complaint. They ask for full payment at booking as you wouldn’t pay full amount o leaving

Amazing. Not our first visit but our fourth. Again the service was fabulous the staff very very sociable friendly and professional. Nothing was to much for them from Emma providing us with breakfast and an enormous amount of tea to george making us cocktails Of our choice learning and mastering the recipe of our favourite one. The manager Ann took the time to chat with us most days she was there despite how busy she was. The house keeping staff very conscientious of our needs. Nothing was too much for them. Not forgetting Jacob who my partner decided to sprint race with for entertainment purposes. They are very in turn with people and there needs rather that just be solely business environment for them. The weather was glorious as it always has been on each visit and with us having our favourite room. We can’t wait to visit again next year. Thank you all

I can thoroughly recommend this Hotel to anyone wanting a pesonal service with staff that are very attentive and driven to make your stay as good as it can be. Special mention to Jacob who went above and beyond for us.

What can I say, Sanctum on the Green Cookham, is AMAZING!!! We recently celebrated our joint 50th here with a group of friends and stayed overnight. The entire experience was faultless. Huge shout out to Sherene for helping with all of the organising in advance and for being so accommodating. The venue is amazing, a little hidden gem, to take you away from the hustle of everyday life. The food was delicious, catering for 20 people with mouth watering canapes and sharing platters for dinner, everyone in our group loved the food. And last but by no means least, all of the staff from Lara and the rest of the front of house team and to those who we didn't see, but we know work long hours behind the scenes to make everything run like clockwork - you made this experience - friendly, welcoming, attentive. It's fair to say, we had had the best time ever. We can't thank you all enough for making a special birthday celebration so memorable for all of the right reasons. We shall definitely be back!!
