The Limes

It felt more like a hostel and certainly not like a 4* B&B. Overpriced for the offer. No real hosting and couldn’t get the WiFi to work. No chef so no breakfast even though we were told breakfast was possible. Room was very shabby, dirty and cold. Whole place felt unloved. Not a great location. Would not recommend.

I was very disappointed with the limes. When we arrived we paid the man and he showed us to a room but never saw him again after that. The pictures on the website show a much nicer picture. My room was very dusty and mouldy in window. The plug in sink was filthy and the fan didn't work in shower so condensation dripping from windows. I felt like the owner had lost interest and let the place go. It definitely wasn't a 9.2 like it shows

Great York Race meet stopover. Friendly hosts and good location. Comfortable rooms and good local bars with good meals if there for an extended stay beyond a race meeting. Recommend getting a taxi to the race course.

I was hesitant to add but others have encouraged me. Stayed NYE 2022 arrived 5pm no outside lights. A man answered… No pleasantries… just card machine wasn’t working we had paid through paypal so that was obviously fine.. Showed to room which did not close unless locked… I asked about breakfast … there was no breakfast room only … I did check my booking after and it did say room only but when I was checking their website it did say breakfast was included I mean it’s bed and breakfast (clues in the title) the tray that is mentioned in their website I quote “ tea, coffee, hot chocolate, biscuits, sweets raisins and a KitKat which has been made in York for years“ was very under whelming please see attached photo.. The flatscreen tv was 19” at a guess … I quote “ Each room at The Limes has an en suite shower room with heated towel rail, fluffy towels” was indeed a mouldy shower ( see photos) and the mouldy sink was actually in our bedroom ( see photos) The kids bunk beds were wobbly as …. My son even said “mam I dare not move” to which I said “son there’s a wardrobe next to you (that had 5 hangers, 4 were taken with just our coats) and that will prop you and save you…. Don’t know where the licensed bar is… I did ask for ice which I received but when I needed more there was no one around ( not for lack of trying) there was no reception per say apart from check in no one could be contacted. I’ve stayed in places similar where they’ve left mobile numbers in case but nothing… Please don’t get me started on the floor above … oh my goodness… could hear everything… not voices (apart from tele) just movement like every step… I should have known really when I seen the ear plugs on the side tables … they’re never provided on the off chance … So after all of us been awaken from the stampede above we got sorted to depart … And personally thought it was insult to injury as the man did offer to sort toast and cereal out for us the night before but considering I didn’t see anyone to arrange anything I went to hand the key in to a lovely smell of bacon that was coming from the kitchen … which obviously was their own kitchen and making sandwiches for themselves but personally I thought it was a sly move considering they pride themselves on this wonderful breakfast that we were expecting to be told they lee not doing to smell nothing but deliciousness that we could’ve have… low blow to me… all in all I wouldn’t stay again and I was very disappointed from what I read that made me book. We could have stayed at the holiday inn for the same money including breakfast so it wasn’t a case of that was the only option…..

Can definitely recommend this property! Great location, 25 minute walk to York town centre, but can also get a bus from outside the Barracks for a few pounds & takes 5 minutes. There is an Aldi & Iceland 2 minutes the road & a Pharmacy & Sainsbury’s 5 minutes further. Free parking which is an added bonus! I liked that they had a seating lounge area if you wanted to have a quiet sit down, outside of your room. It was beautifully decorated for Chris**as also which made it lovely. Rooms were very clean! Comfy beds & pillows! We came during the freezing weather & rooms were lovely and warm! Tea & coffee making facilities also in the room & fresh drinking water also. Breakfast was good with lots of choice. Fruit, pastries, cereal. Selection of juice & tea & coffee. You could also get a fried breakfast, scrambled eggs on toast etc. I asked for a bacon sandwich which wasn’t on the menu & they were more than happy to oblige. Staff were lovely & friendly also & good value for money! £114 for 2 nights, including breakfast & during December when the Chris**as markets were on!

Stayed overnight so that we could visit the chris**as markets in York. Good location, close to the city centre and bus stops. The staff were friendly and helpful and made sure our room was nice and warm upon arrival. The room was cosy and clean, while the mattresses were very soft and comfortable. The bathroom was a bit small but still perfectly useable while the shower was good. Breakfast was good and the staff accommodated our vegan party with little notice. Highly recommend, thank you for your hospitality!

Spent 3 nights here,rooms a bit dated but spotless clean,breakfast excellent all 3 mornings,owners could not have been more pleasant think they will bring the place on in time,good clean pub the saddle 5 minutes walk,live music when we went,10 mins walk to york centre,good parking at the limed,

Lovely clean triple rooms on first floor with very comfortable beds. Fabulous breakfast to set us up for a day of exploring York. Friendly welcoming staff. All in all a great stay and will certainly be back!

If you are looking for somewhere to stay when visiting your son or daughter at The University of York look no further. The Limes Hotel is ideally situated close by. That was one of the reasons we chose this hotel when visiting our daughter. We were very impressed with this small B&B. The standard of our room and the quality of the breakfast plus the friendliness of the owner confirmed we had made the right choice.
