It’s my second time staying here, and both times the experience has been great. I landed late at night, and the hotel made sure I didn’t have to wait long at the airport—they were right on time for pickup, which I really appreciated.
Food-wise, I was craving steamed momos, and they were good. Breakfast options were a bit limited, but apart from that, everything else was spot on. The room, staff interaction, and overall service were very good.
The staff allowed us to check in early after a long overnight train. Thank you. The hotel is comfortable and perfectly located. We could walk to the Potala and Jokhang Temple. Dozens of restaurants and cafes were also within walking distance. There was oxygen in the rooms and
breakfast staff were very welcoming. Would stay there again.
Excellent Stay and Warm Hospitality at Mercure Kathmandu
This was my first time visiting Kathmandu, and Mercure Kathmandu truly left a wonderful impression. From the moment we arrived, the service and hospitality stood out.
A special mention to Paras, who picked us up from the airport and helped us with check-in. He was exceptionally kind and professional, and even shared some very useful information about getting around Kathmandu — which really helped us make the most of our trip.
We had booked a room with breakfast for only one person, but the hotel kindly extended complimentary breakfast for both of us — a gesture we truly appreciated.
The room itself was awesome — clean, comfortable, and well-equipped. The toiletries were complete, even including a razor and shaving cream, which was a nice touch.
Overall, the staff throughout our stay were consistently helpful and friendly, making us feel very welcome. Highly recommend Mercure Kathmandu to anyone visiting the city — great service, comfort, and warm hospitality all around!

Nice, clean rooms, big comfy bed and pillows. Shower was okay. Water did not get hot, lukewarm at best and refrigerator was not cold at all, I almost thought it was broken. Food was good if you stick to Nepali and Indian food options, but lassis were watered down. Drinks were also not cold. Most of the staff were really friendly and helpful, but I had two instances that really turned me off. They have a free buffet breakfast, but if you opt to skip it, they call you very early in the morning to ask if you're coming or not. This disturbed my sleep several times until I asked them to stop. Today was also my last day here and although check out is at 3pm, I received a call from reception at 10:30am asking when I'd be leaving. He informed me that a big group would be arriving and told me that the check out time was noon, when it was clearly stated otherwise online. He asked if I'd be staying another night instead as if I was bartering to not be pushed out of my room before check out time, when I was right. I've never had such an experience before and have traveled all over the world. Such a lack of professionalism and tact. That is not how you treat guests at a 4 star hotel. Not recommending this hotel to anyone!
Only hotel room I booked in Nepal for good rest before flight.
Room is clean but the lighting have some issue.
But it have a elevator ! Usually the hostel i stay only have stairs
Lovely stay in Hotel Thrive. The hotel is located just off the main tourist hub in Thamel, it’s a very short walk and the hotel has security 24/7.
The main courtyard is beautiful, a true tropical calm oasis away from the busy streets of Kathmandu.
The rooms are spacious and modern with all the amenities you would need alongside daily housekeeping.
The gym is compact but with good, well kept modern machinery and fantastic views across Kathmandu.
The breakfast is delicious with ample choice to suit everyone.
I would highly recommend this hotel and we would definitely stay again when we next visit Kathmandu.

IInvitéI had an incredible stay and extended two more nights. The GM and the staff are super helpful and customer oriented. Room is spacious. Morning yoga is included and the male yoga teacher is phenomenal. The yoga practice is inside the monastery. The location is another advantage. It’s walking distance to the Boudha Stupa which allows me to walk there a few times a day. At the same time, it’s in a quiet dead end. Lastly, it could be helpful for some who wish to disconnect digitally because wifi doesn’t work too well . There’s only one server located near the staircase in my building. If your room is far away from it, the signal is obviously problematic.
IInvitéProbably the most hospitable experience I’ve felt in a long time at a hotel while traveling out of country. Felt like I was their relative living in their home.
IInvitéThe room made a decent first impression and did the bare minimum. But, it quickly became clear that it’s best suited for a very short stay. The bed was comfortable enough. Overall, the room is fine if you’re just passing through, but anything longer starts to feel like stretching it.
Staff presence around the hotel was limited. They clearly run on a lean operation, which can go either way. The guard in front of the elevator stood out in the best possible way and added a genuinely warm, human touch, which helped balance things out.
At check-in, I was given two complimentary cocktail coupons for the upstairs bar, which immediately lifted my spirits. This was a place I had enjoyed many times before and often recommended to friends and family. I had good memories of the atmosphere, the food, and the general vibe, so I went in with high hopes. In the past I had written raving 5-star reviews of their restaurant food and amazing service!
Unfortunately, the experience that followed didn’t live up to those expectations. What should have been a simple, enjoyable night out unraveled into confusion and unwelcoming interactions. Small moments piled up, the mood shifted, and it became clear that the experience had gone off the rails. Rather than force it, my group and I decided to take our time and money elsewhere. Sometimes you read the room and move on.
I returned to the hotel later that night and stayed over. Took a hot shower in the morning, loved the smell of their body wash, btw!
Another brief interaction during checkout reinforced the same theme: rigid, abrupt, and lacking the kind of hospitality that makes guests feel welcome.
All in all, it’s disappointing to see a place I once enjoyed and freely recommended lose its consistency and warmth. I’m no longer comfortable recommending it, and I’m not sure I would choose to return.
As for the unused cocktail coupon, I still have it. Any takers?
IInvitéThe skyline restaurant is the best at sunset in this hotel. They have a transparent glass floor to watch everything under your feet. Many locals also get dressed up and come here to enjoy the million-dollar-worthy sight. You can also enjoy the buffet breakfast at the same restaurant if staying here.
I used the swimming pool and sauna on 9 floor. The staff there are very attentive and friendly. Feel like a queen being there!
The room is super clean and smell nice! I am amazed by the A.C. System. Believe me that’s very rare to find in Kathmandu!
All is very good from the beginning of check-in and till the end. They have free drop-off transportation to airport. So I would highly recommend to book the last nights in Nepal and enjoy a relaxing evening of here!
IInvitéI think this is the best place to stay in Kathmandu. The hotel has its own market/bazaar which is so cool to walk through. Very peaceful and quiet.
Local food was quite delicious.
IInvitéI stayed for 2 nights, it didn't feel safe for me as a solo woman traveller. One the first night around 11pm there were 3-4 men shouting and laughing and knocked my door. I was scared and called the reception. The phone wire was not connected to the phone, i have to hold it tight to the phone while i was speaking. It was a terrifying experience. When in emergency even the phone wasn't working! the receptionist took 30 min to for the men to calm down. The next day morning the receptionist told me they men moved out. But i saw them in the evening in the hotel. Didn't feel safe. Again, the men, shouting and aloud. Still i couldn't sleep there, awake whole two nights i stayed there, didn't feel safe. The place was clean. Location was good.
BBernard VoonThe hotel is conveniently situated right behind of the Garden of Dreams. Just a short walking distance to the busy Thamel area. The vicinity has convenience stores, cafes, eateries and pharmacy.
The room is quite small but it's alright for a short stay. The bed wasn't quite as comfortable as other hotels that I've stayed. Very basic fitness facility in the hotel, do wish that they would make the gym bigger and better equipped.
The breakfast buffet is good enough for some fuel before heading out to explore. Omelette could definitely be improved but I do like the mushrooms and bacon with my omelette. They also have a soup station which you can pick what you want to go into your soup. The soy latte was nicely done. Some day they serve the chocolate cake which is a must try.
Staffs are very well trained and speaks good english. I'd definitely recommend staying here for the value for money, fantastic location and good hospitality.
