Location a bit from center but it's ok with taxi
Everything was perfectly fine! I was just a bit shocked that the local beer bintang cost 12€. Even without the service fee of 2€. 10€ is far to much.
But the staff was very friendly and helpful with everything.
Les gens amis et utiles, bon et propre, bon restaurant et bar près de l'hôtel, à l'invitation des gens de l'Ouest comme des aliments si vous ne vous attendez pas à des aliments indonésiens, je vous recommande vivement.
Everything is great for the hotel. We can see the hotel is aged but it's more than made up by the good maintenance, thus retaining it's lavishness. However there really isn't nothing interesting nearby and the road in front are way to busy for any pedestrians walking
Weekend rate is expensive compared with weekdays. Unfortunately there is no swimming pool or gym. Suitable for travellers who wants convenient around the city. For the price - yes i will return to the hotel again. Thumbs up.

Location is great for me in that its only 7 mins by car to the airport. Medan downtown is about 30 minutes away through challenging traffic.
The service staff were excellent all round. Amenities, rooms and public areas were clean. The swimming pool water did look a bit cloudy although the bottom of the pool is visible from overhead. I did not swim though.
Complimentary tea bags should include English breakfast or black tea. Small niggle but it takes on greater significance if you stay in the area long enough to miss strong tea because almost all restaurants serves very weak tea.
Breakfast offering especially the local cuisines could be better - at least for me. The tea was really weak ( read above); there was only one choice of plain white sandwich loaf. No butter, although vegetable oil-based margarine was offerred. The danish pastry were stiff and cloy but I guess I need to manage my expectations as this cuisine is not indigeneous. But if a simple improvement could be done, I believe this hotel will draw more satisfaction from (foreign) guests.

IInvitéGrand City Hall Medan Hotel – A Warm and Memorable Stay in Medan
My recent two-night stay at Grand City Hall Medan Hotel during Ramadan turned out to be a delightful experience — one that combined comfort, convenience, and exceptional service.
Service and Hospitality
What really stood out to me was how the staff went above and beyond to ensure our comfort. On our last night, we ran into a bit of trouble — the AC in our room suddenly started making loud noises in the middle of the night. Not exactly ideal when you’re hoping for a peaceful rest.
But here’s what impressed me: the hotel staff handled it so well. They responded quickly, offered us a new room without hesitation, and even helped us pack and move our belongings. It’s rare to see that kind of care and attention, especially in the middle of the night. Thanks to their swift action, what could have been a frustrating night turned out to be just a minor hiccup — and we were able to get back to a restful sleep without much trouble.
Hotel Design and Amenities
The hotel itself is beautifully designed — modern yet inviting. We stayed in one of their Japanese-style rooms, which turned out to be a real highlight. The room had a peaceful Tatami area, adding a lovely touch of authenticity. It felt like stepping into a little corner of Japan — perfect for relaxing after a long day. Plus, the Jacuzzi in the room was an amazing bonus — just what we needed to unwind.
Ramadan Dining Experience
Since we visited during Ramadan, the hotel’s thoughtful approach to accommodating fasting guests was a real plus. Their Sahoor menu was fantastic — delicious, filling, and full of variety. It felt like they genuinely cared about making sure we had a satisfying start to our day.
In the evenings, their iftar session was another standout. The setup — both indoors and outdoors by the pool — created a relaxed yet festive atmosphere. The menu was well-curated, offering a range of tasty dishes at a reasonable price. To top it off, their lobby café offered complimentary tea, coffee, and small iftar snacks every afternoon — a thoughtful touch that felt incredibly welcoming.
Location
Being right in the heart of Medan was another big win. Whether you’re exploring the city’s vibrant food scene or heading out for business, the hotel’s central location makes everything easily accessible.
Room Cleanliness and Maintenance
While the room itself was clean and well-maintained, I felt the bathroom could have used a bit more attention — perhaps a deeper clean to really match the otherwise high standards of the hotel. That said, this was more about my personal preference for spotless surfaces than any major issue.
Ambiance and Atmosphere
One interesting thing I noticed was that the hotel seemed to attract a well-dressed, elegant crowd — it felt like a place where Medan’s esteemed ladies and gentlemen regularly gathered. There was an air of sophistication that added to the charm.
Final Thoughts
If you’re looking for a hotel that offers more than just a place to sleep — one that makes you feel welcome and well-cared for — Grand City Hall Medan Hotel is an excellent choice. From the inviting Tatami room and Jacuzzi to their thoughtful Ramadan touches and top-notch service, this hotel truly made our stay memorable.
I’d definitely recommend it — and I wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again the next time I’m in Medan
BBroeryI used to stay here during my golfing days more than 10 yrs ago. This time I came alone.
The shower is erratic, flow haywire, No Live music at Lobby Lounge, Karaoke is Closed, and my room is facing the pool,so Noisy and Loud at New year 31/12 celebration.
TV channels adequate, coffee Tea r good.
Breakfast, average and boring.

LLynn99I recently stayed at the Samosir Cottage on Samosir Island from November 29 to December 1, 2024.
The room was spacious, a significant plus. However, the toilet area required attention, with ants present, as mentioned in previous reviews. While this was acceptable for me, it's an area for improvement.
What truly impressed me was the exceptional service from the receptionist. They clearly explained options and kindly upgraded us to a bigger room. Their helpfulness and professionalism made a significant difference in our stay.
We booked two deluxe rooms, but the first room had a smoke smell, prompting us to request a change or upgrade.
Overall, while there's room for improvement in bathroom maintenance and mattress covers, the Samosir Cottage's spacious rooms and excellent service make it a solid choice for those visiting Samosir Island.
Rating: 3/5 stars
Recommended for: Spacious rooms, excellent service

Wwan syahmi 23This hotel is actually better than I thought it would be. I got an executive room for a really good price. The room had air conditioning, a TV, a refrigerator, and a safe. The food is cheap, even cheaper than a lot of the food outside the hotel. I had Nasi Goreng Kampung, Seafood Capcay, Corn Egg Soup, and three servings of rice, all for only 120k. And it was all delicious! There's a big variety of food and drinks in the morning, but you have to get there early!
