As the first stop of my birthday trip, I chose Aso. Having previously worked as a hotel management professional, I had high expectations for the hotel’s facilities and services. My stay at Kakuman Hotel, along with my traveling companions, was thoroughly enjoyable—from check-in to the overall amenities, everything exceeded our satisfaction. The staff we encountered were exceptionally friendly, whether at the front desk or in the restaurant. Additionally, experiencing hot springs for the first time left us feeling deeply relaxed. Thank you to Kakuman Hotel for adding color to my journey.🙏🏼 While every aspect was highly satisfying, there was a minor shortcoming: the majority of diners in the restaurant were Korean tourists. On my second night, a small incident occurred during dinner. The server assigned me a seat where only tableware and a departure-time notice were placed. After I retrieved my food, I found three Korean guests (two elderly individuals and a middle-aged man) preparing to sit there. I was confused whether I had taken the wrong seat or if there was another reason, so I asked the guests. Unexpectedly, the man loudly called over the female server who had arranged the seat and sharply questioned her in Japanese. The server later found me the correct seat, which was at the table adjacent to the three guests. I felt deeply sorry for the female server being unjustly scolded, and I also did not understand why the Korean man needed to accuse her in such a loud tone—I would have been happy to apologize for my misunderstanding. Regarding the above incident, I would like to offer a suggestion: the tables in the restaurant are each equipped with a bucket of tableware and wet wipes, but there are no numbers or markers to identify the assigned seats. Guests can only rely on placing their own items or memory to remember their seats. I believe I am not the only one who has encountered a similar issue, and the hotel may consider adding markers to each table to make it easier for guests to recognize their assigned seats.

Dans l'ensemble, l'hôtel était très satisfaisant. Il y a juste un petit bémol : lors de mon enregistrement à la borne automatique, un employé aux cheveux courts a pris mon téléphone et mes bagages et me les a tendus. J'étais à une cinquantaine de centimètres de lui ; il aurait été préférable qu'il me demande simplement de les tenir. J'ai trouvé dommage qu'il touche à mes affaires et les prenne pour me les donner. Pour le reste, tout est parfait. Le petit-déjeuner est également excellent.

Nous étions deux couples. L'hôtel est très bien situé, toutes les attractions sont accessibles à pied et une supérette se trouve juste à côté, ce qui est très pratique. Deux bouteilles d'eau sont offertes quotidiennement. Le ménage quotidien se résume à un simple changement des serviettes et au vidage des poubelles. Mais le grand atout de l'hôtel est sans aucun doute le grand bain public traditionnel japonais, situé sur le toit. Il est excellent et accessible toute la nuit. Après une longue journée de visites, c'était un pur délice de se rafraîchir et d'aller se prélasser dans le bassin extérieur, profitant de la brise estivale et observant les étoiles depuis le toit. Une expérience vraiment très agréable.

Pros- spacious villa, quality bedding and large private indoor onsen( see picture 13). We also like the public outdoor onsen in the sister ryokan nearby. There is a little cafe there you can buy drinks and coffee, run by an adorable old couple, very nice and polite. We spent a lot of time there just chilling and listening to the music. Cons- Living room: we were only able to book the western style villa as it’s a little last minute trip. The living room is basic, bland, with sofa, instead or tatami. Our room 512 is next to the car park. Parking lot in front of your main door is not very pleasant. Food : just soso. Nothing extraordinary. See picture. No horse sashimi, the presentation of the steak is really ordinary - disappointing. Perhaps because we had such an amazing meals in the previous ryokan this became a massive letdown. Dinner served in a large public dining room, lack of the privacy and intimacy ther ryokan provide ( we had private dining room in another ryokan 野之花during this trip). I got to see other couples but also feeling like we are being watched. Service- served by young people, not much attentiveness you would expect in traditional ryokan, lack of the warmth and ritual. Reception- 3 star at best. A basic room with uncomfortable chair while you wait to be checked in. We arrived around 2:30pm, and was told that check in can only start at 3pm, and please wait. So we sat at the hard chair and forced to watch the promotional video until 3pm. Conclusion - 3.5 star ryokan, not the most exciting or exclusive villa we have stayed. Maybe it would get better once the trees grow thicker and staff better trained. The sister Ryokan nearby has better feel of environment and feels more established.

Une expérience absolument merveilleuse. Le personnel du ryokan était incroyablement poli et toujours prêt à nous aider. À notre arrivée, on nous a fourni des vêtements traditionnels, des pyjamas, des chaussons tabi, des produits de bain et une petite attention de bienvenue avec du matcha et du café. Nous avons également demandé à la réception s'ils pouvaient nous emmener à l'arrêt de bus après notre départ, et ils ont gentiment accepté. Notre chambre était spacieuse, propre et joliment décorée. Au départ, nous avions prévu de découvrir d'autres onsens des environs, mais après avoir testé ceux du ryokan, nous étions pleinement satisfaits. Il y a des bains séparés pour les clients de l'hôtel (hommes et femmes), des bains ouverts à tous (également séparés par sexe), ainsi qu'un onsen privé. L'un des onsens dispose également d'un sauna. Le dîner et le petit-déjeuner traditionnels étaient tous deux impressionnants : délicieux et très copieux. Le domaine est magnifique, idéal pour de paisibles promenades. Ce ryokan est un peu à l'écart des principales auberges, mais c'était exactement ce que nous recherchions : profiter du calme des promenades. Le soir, nos futons étaient préparés, ce qui renforçait l'authenticité du séjour. Le seul bémol, c'est la lumière verte très vive au plafond, qui reste allumée toute la nuit sans pouvoir être éteinte ni masquée. N'ayant pas de masque de sommeil et le ryokan n'en fournissant pas, j'ai passé une nuit blanche. C'était assez désagréable. Cela dit, je recommande vivement ce ryokan : c'est un lieu de séjour inoubliable.

It’s the first hotel that I’ve been to in Japan that had a normal check-in procedure through the receptionist rather than a machine, and you’re greeted upon entry. The location is so perfect and considering it’s right next to the train station, I didn’t hear a thing. Also the room for the price was very comfortable and spacious!

Conveniently Located, but Wouldn't Return Due to Room ConditionOn the bright side, the hotel has an excellent location. It was easy to locate and surrounded by various attractions and convenience stores. The staff at the front desk was polite and accommodating as well. However, the room condition was disappointing. Right after checking in, I noticed a severe musty smell reminiscent of damp, old laundry. Thankfully, the friendly staff provided a handle to open the window, so I aired out the room while eating dinner outside. However, the room was extremely small.

這次春節帶爸媽住的黑川温泉的這家酒店，很臨時預訂發現突然有一間空房，臨時換了這家，完全沒選錯！服務真的給我超級暖心！！！不僅酒店的湯泡的非常舒服！ 訂房含三人的早餐，免費的晚酌體驗，免費的接送車站服務，另外在出行前還聯繫了客服預訂了人均400的自助晚餐，有新鮮的刺身跟牛肉呷浦呷浦，很適合爸媽！ 酒店頂樓還有天文台，奈何天氣太冷，去的太晚沒有觀測到星星。 值得一提的是！！退房時手機落在房間了，聯繫上我時人已到福岡，甚至隔天一早是從長崎要飛回國了！酒店非常貼心且效率的聯繫了黑貓宅急便立刻幫我送到長崎的酒店！還是免費！！非常貼心很感動！
