Kondai Lip Backwater Heritage Resort

This is a beautiful hotel in a wonderful setting with water all around. The food was very good and the staff very helpful. We went on the boat trip to see the interesting fishing nets ***** the river.

In back water Island...amidst nature...40 km from Alleppey back water..need to take a 50 m boat ride to reach resort reception...they offer free paddle boat, kayaking in resort back water which is 3 to 3.5 ft and safe and we especially kids enjoyed lots ...heaven for bird lovers .. u can find ***y different birds in resort itself.....they arranged group motor boat ride at back water that was average experience... We did early morning 6:30 am bird watching walk from resort with bird lover enthusiast at resort Mr. Sudhees Mohan... excellent humble and nice person with good knowledge about birds..we especially kids enjoyed lots...we saw ***y king fishers, bee eaters, egrets, herons, komrons and ***y more...it was the best experience.. We wanted to go for jogging in early morning and they arranged it very well... Food was good but limited options for vegetarian... Nice swimming pool Very good grape spice welcome drink on arrival Over all superb experience with well courteous staffs and great service..nice view from rooms

We discovered this place on ******* by chance and after looking at reviews booked for our family reunion. Our initial impression was not great as we arrived late at night but in the morning it completely reversed. 1. Amazing staff 2. Great food choices 3. Cheaper than other comparable options 4. Activities including kayaking, boating etc 5. Did I say amazing staff, well they were very nice. 6. Beautiful location Remember to bring your binoculars to watch the bird life.

We had a 1 night booking here and as soon as we arrived we booked for a 2nd night! We were in two minds about whether to do a houseboat or not but as it’s peak season and weekend the prices were high - so we decided to try this hotel instead. It did not disappoint! In fact I would say don’t bother doing an overnight houseboat (I’ve done one before) and stay here! You get everything and more! It is set directly on the backwaters and the view from the rooms are amazing. There are heaps of complimentary activities you can do and an afternoon boat up and down the backwaters. The food was delicious. The pool was great. It was a perfect place to relax.

Excellent property with well maintained rooms. The unique experience is that one has to enter the hotel after a very short boat ride. Its a perfect place to relax. They offers heap of complimentary activities which one can do in the resort and gain experience paddle boating, shikari, kayaking, etc. One can do backwater boating which is a lifetime experience with a beautiful surrounding and so ***y different type of birds. The staff is courteous and food is good.

The reception staff at the reception was incredibly courteous and efficient, ensuring a smooth check-in process. Especially welcome drink was so unique and tasty. Staffs are honest and so kind, they called me to refund some money which was over charged by restaurant by mistake. The view of the property provide traditional authentic Kerala experience, nice boating experience and also surrounded by nature Perfect spot if you want to relax, prices are reasonable. Thanks to Chef Mr.Gijo to arrange and cook such a big fish , taste was amazing and delicious. I wish to thank Mr.Renji Paul and Mr.Ken Sunny.

Lovely place abt 55 kms from the Cochin Airport. Tucked away in through a little late with water bodies all around . One unique experience being that one has to to enter the hotel by a very short boat ride. Very courteous staff and helpful. The food is better than most . The setting peaceful. It's right in the middle of Alleppey and Cochin . Even Kumarakom is very easily reached

We had the opportunity to stay at this wonderful resort as a couple in Dec 2022 .Having been to Kerala earlier we had already been to Munnar and Thekkady and wanted to enjoy the backwaters at a place not too far from Kochi Once earlier we had stayed at Vasundhara Sarovar and taken house boat experience also. This time we were lucky to get booking at this idyllic scenic resort just around 1.5 hours from Kochi airport It is surrounded by backwaters and they have their own lake with all the rooms especially the deluxe ones having balcony directly on the lake which enables one to have fantastic early morning sunrise snaps We were very well looked after by Mr Ken ,Mr Remji and Mr Tubin . The staff overall is very helpful amd minimally intrusive yet do their jobs well They have a single restaurant which has a buffet breakfast which we found quite adequate and filling . The meals like lunch and dinner have to be preordered and we had tasty sea food freshly prepared ones -including fish ,crab,pomfret As we are avid birders we arranged a morning walk with Mr Renju who himself is knowledgable and we ***aged to see and spot lots of birds including some exciting new sightings . There are lots of activities one can do like pedal boating,kayaking and fishing. They arrange for a complimentary evening boat ride ***** the backwaters and one can spot lots of Chinese fishing nets The spa is also good though can be improved My suggestion is to add evening tea with snacks lakeside where the in-house guests can relax by the backwater and mingle with one another The rooms are well Appointed and with all basic facilities The swimming pool is good though there want enough lighting once evening set in and the area became dark. A beautiful place to enjoy the essence f Kerala We went to a neighbouring fishing village and beach in the second evening at the suggestion of Mr Ken and were pleasantly surprised there with the fishing boats nd the sea and beach where we watched the sunset Overall we had a memorable time .

My yoga studio hosted our annual international Yoga & PIlates retreat at Kondai Lip Backwater Heritage Resort in Alappuzha, Kerala. We have been communicating with Renji since 2020 when we first planned our retreat there, but the pandemic hit and we postponed it til this year. The resort has 17 cottages, and our group of 26 pax took all but one of the cottages. Our flights landed close to midnight but arranging for airport pick up from Cochin International Airport was not a problem. Our bus ride took slightly under 1.5 hours to reach the Backwaters, and we then piled onto small boats operated by the resort to cross over. Checking in was a breeze, even though it was at 2.30am, and the cottages are spacious, clean and well-maintained. The beds were comfortable and each cottage had both air-conditioning and a ceiling fan. The cottages was beautifully spaced out, and the landscape was gorgeous and well-maintained. Sunrise and sunsets at the Backwaters were spectacular. The resort's restaurant served authentic Keralan food, and it was delicious. As well-travelled Asians, our palate is somewhat more diversified, and we commented to the chef that we'd prefer our Masala Chai a bit stronger.....and he did his best to accommodate our requests. The recently built yoga hall above the reception was very spacious and airy, with windows all round and views of the Backwaters and greenery. Our only comment was that the hall's ceiling fan had only one speed.....and it was Fast! It would have been nice if the speed could be adjusted. There was an intermittent water supply shortage in the mornings, perhaps due to ***y people taking showers all at once, but it was very quickly rectified. The yoga hall is equipped with yoga mats and bolsters, making it very convenient if one was traveling and would like to do some yoga or meditation and didn't have their mats with them. Kondai Lip is quiet, serene, and perfect for our annual yoga event. The staff were friendly and helpful, and most communicated well in English. You can get to Fort Kochi by car, for a bit of sightseeing and shopping (just ask the Front Desk to make arrangements), or book an Ayurveda massage if you're staying in. May is the beginning of summer and the Indian summers are known to be hot, but we were lucky to have rain in the early morning, which cooled down the temperature quite a bit. It is advisable to bring ***** mosquito repellent if you're taking an evening stroll in the grounds or walking out to the restaurant for dinner. A big thank you, to Renji and team, for making our event and 6-day stay smooth sailing and pleasant. We thoroughly enjoyed our time at Kondai Lip and look forward to returning in the near future.
