The Rose Cottage Inn

I stayed in the Beacon view on the 28th to the 29th of June on my solo trip with my dog, this place was amazing with beautiful view and stunning accommodation and very dog friendly, The owners were wonderful and a life saver as my phone charger stopped working so they had a spare so I could charge my phone as I needed my OS maps as I was walking the south downs way, honestly will definitely be back! Thankyou

Came here after coming off the hills on the second day of walking along the South Downs Way. Not too far from the path and along a metalled road which is very pleasant after a hard day on rough ground. Room was the double cabin 'Hikers' Rest 1' which had an en-suite. Snug bordering on cramped but the bathroom was a good size. The accommodation itself is in a very old pub which is now a guesthouse. Breakfast is very nice and served in the pub's old dining room. Well worth £10. The two owners couldn't be more helpful and sent the instructions to get into the room in advance as well as recommending a nice pub. There are a couple a fair walk away, about 20-30 mins one way. Cricketer's was excellent and worth the extra mile or so. We were very kindly given a lift to the station the next day as well which saved a fortune on a cab. I will seriously consider coming again before walking along the final section to Eastbourne. We had such a lovely stay here whilst on a family weekend for my Birthday. The accommodation was spotlessly clean with views over the pretty garden. We stayed in Hikers Rest One which is a little self contained building in the garden. Just a bed and a bathroom but perfect for us for one night and very warm with a comfy bed. Alciston nestles under the South Downs and is a perfect location if you like to walk. The owners Dave and Val are very accommodating and cooked us a fantastic breakfast. Also dogfriendly, which is always important for us.

Review from my child…”Fantastic owners, very friendly mummy and it’s so clean and tidy. We must visit them again! Also breakfast was amazing!” My husband agreed and said that the host were extremely welcoming.

The Rose Cottage Inn was our base for a week while attending Glyndebourne and visiting the Sussex countryside. The location (in the charming village of Alciston) could not have been better, and our room (in the former pub’s front parlour) was clean, cozy, and well-appointed. We chose to have breakfast each morning, which was always delicious, filling, and cooked to order. Our hosts, David and Val, were absolutely lovely, and generous with advice, information and just about anything else we needed during our stay. We especially enjoyed watching the sun set over the South Downs from the rear garden (the weather was particularly fine during our stay) and hearing the horses clip-clopping past our window in the morning. So glad we chose to stay at The Rose Cottage during our trip, and hope to return on future visits to Glyndebourne and the surrounding area!

Lovely apartment, lovely location and lovely hosts. We only stayed for two nights, but we’re made to feel welcomed and very safe. We were a little concerned when we realised we were staying in a room over a converted garage in the car park, but had no need to be. It was warm, cozy, well equipped and immaculately clean. We would come back here without hesitation and highly recommend to anyone looking fo a break in the Sussex countryside.

My wife and I had a very pleasant two day stay at this one-time pub now offering self catering rooms with breakfast available. It is up a narrow road off the A27 but easy to find. Our apartment, Beacon View, looked unprepossessing from outside but the inside was modern and well appointed. A lounge with well stocked kitchen and a decent TV. The bedroom was comfortable with plenty of hanging space and the bathroom had a good shower. The heating was easy to control to give us a cool bedroom and warm lounge and bathroom. The weather kept us out of the garden but there is a pleasant open view. What really made the stay was the lovely welcome from David and Val and a very good cooked breakfast. They catered for my gluten free needs without fuss. We appreciated their helpful advice on local eating establishments and things to do on a wet and windy day. A great and good value base for visiting this corner of East Sussex.
