On our Bali Holiday we decided to spend 2 nights on Lembongan. We decided to rent a buggy ( golf cart) to make the most of our only full day ( second day) to explore the island fully and make the most of it. Unfortunately I didn’t research this and ended up renting one from the Nichos for 700,000 rupiah. About 2 hours into our adventure I noticed that the brakes weren’t great so I kept the buggy on the Low speed and drove it slowly…. After lunch we drove over to Dream beach and Devils Tears, this was when the drama started as the brakes seemed to fail completely when I tried to park, forcing me to hit the retaining wall at the car park, if not for this wall we would have gone over a cliff. The damage was superficial ( slight crack in fibreglass and badge came off) so we stayed, checked out Devils Tears which was magnificent and then spent an hour and a half swimming at Dream beach which was awesome also….. at this point I thought it would be best to return buggy and see if it could be fixed as it wasn’t safe to drive, it was on the way back I realised that not only were the brakes faulty but the accelerator was getting jammed in the throttle position and needed to be kicked back when braking to stop the buggy.. this is where the nightmare begins ….. the owner, Made Wijaya, had absolutely no regard for my concerns about safety and was only focused on the superficial damage that he said I had to pay for. I made it clear that the damage was a result of the vehicle being unroadworthy and that it wasn’t my problem but he suggested it would be a $600 repair and when i suggested he should be thinking more about offering me a refund he just exploded and launched at me with a violent and savage attack, punching and kicking, and verbally threatening to kill me while my young son was yelling at him to stop. It was only the intervention of tourists and locals who were near by that allowed me to get away with only some minor bruising and a smashed pair of sunglasses. I wished I had of read reviews on Trip advisor and google before hand but as it wasn’t accommodation I didn’t, lesson learned. It appears this man has a reputation for this kind of behaviour and the locals I spoke to said he wasn’t well regarded, gives Bali people a bad name and that he is criminal. Unfortunately, up until this incident, we were thinking that on our next Trip to Bali that we would spend the majority of it on Nusa Lembongan. We will not set foot back on this slice of paradise now. I have attached photos of the unroadworthy buggy and the beautiful beach where the brakes failed
