We were booked for the L’Hôtel de Beaune from 09/04 to 10/04 for a pit stop on our way to the Côte d’Azur. First impression: this house pretends to be a 5 star hotel but is very far away from being one! Especially, the so-called “annex” building where our daughter’s room was located would have been worthy of a youth hostel but certainly not of a luxury accommodation! At this point, we still thought: ok, it’s just for one night. However, our experience at this “5 star” house became most remarkable in the evening. We had booked weeks before a table for dinner at the hotel’s restaurant “Le Bistro de l’Hôtel”. When arriving there punctually at 8pm, they wanted to give us the worst table straight on the way to the restroom. When we asked them to be placed elsewhere they simply refused and did not show the slightest will to make the situation more comfortable for us. After short discussion, we canceled the reservation, were then ushered out of the bistro by one of their “friendly “ waiters and turned back to the reception of the hotel. When asking the receptionist to make a reservation for us in another restaurant an older man approached me, interrupted my conversation with the hotel’s staff member and introduced himself as the owner of the hotel and restaurant. Instead of apologizing for what had just happened in his bistro… he immediately began to attack me verbally. He told me that we were not part of his regular guests and that he couldn’t please everybody. When I am replied that I didn’t feel like “everybody “ but as someone who was a guest of his hotel having booked 2 rooms for quite a lot of money he got more and more aggressive. He told me that he wasn’t “a f*ck” interested if I was a hotel guest or not. Then, this obviously already drunken “gentleman “ (to remind: it was now 08:15pm) talked in a most vulgar language to me and came closer and closer to me so that I was forced to ask him to keep his distance otherwise I had to call the police. At this point, he stopped talking to me, addressed his receptionist and told him that he wanted us to leave the hotel. I drew his attention to the fact that we had already payed the rooms. He then asked his receptionist to disburse us in cash. To be honest, we were happy to leave this so-called luxury hotel, took our car, went to Lyon and booked a room at the Sofitel. There, the concierge managed to make a reservation for us in one of the city’s finest restaurants even though our arrival time was only around 10:30pm. We spent a wonderful evening in Lyon and kept talking about our recent experience in Beaune. Although today we just laugh a lot at the behavior of this hotel owner you should know that there a more pleasant things that could happen to a family on their 1st day of vacation in France. And be sure: if this happened to us it can happen also to you! So keep away!
