Wilmina Hotel

What an incredible hotel! We were staying for four nights in the Penthouse Suite. The room is amazing. Full of light at sunrise, very silent - the only sound are the birds chirping in the garden. Bed is very comfortable too. The breakfast is delicious, with plenty of healthy and balanced options. Architecturally, the building renovation is a masterpiece. What I loved were the common areas of the lounge and billiard room. You can make your own (delicious) tea and chill or even have a casual meeting. I will definitely stay at Wilmina next time I go to Berlin!

My partner and I stayed at Hotel Wilmina for two nights for a short 50th birthday break. We absolutely loved this place and rated it in one of the nicest hotels we’ve stayed in. Everything was crisp, immaculate and felt like top quality - from the way this former prison has been renovated to retain interesting features, to the Kartell bathroom, to the super comfortable bed and bedding. The breakfast was lush, the staff were calm and friendly. Would definitely go again and highly recommend. 👍🏻

I was absolutely blown away by the hotel. Expected a good stay, but my expectations were exceeded in every way. Three highlights: The staff was very kind and responsive, particularly Deniz. I loved the lights of the garden at night. The breakfast included an extensive cereal bar with lots of toppings and great yoghurts.

Awful management, client oriented approach failed. The worst experience I’ve ever had. The situation is as follows: My husband has booked a stay at Wilmina Hotel in Berlin from the 11.12 until the 17.12.2023 in the most expensive room - Garden Loft. The total amount was 3.600€. He has arrived on the 10.12.23 and asked if he could move in a day earlier. The room he has booked was available. After checking in he has noticed that he is freezing. It was around 10C inside the room. He was wearing down jacket! Trying to turn on the heaters did not help. The lady at the lobby could not make anything about it neither. She could not offer another room, as there were no available rooms. After my husband has been waiting for the magic to happen for over 2 hours, nothing happened. Cold heaters do not heat the room. The heaters did not get warm. He had to leave at about 01:30 and move to another hotel. The lady at the lobby told me on the phone that nothing will be charged for the stay. On the next day the manager, Mrs. Lüttgau, has charged 700 EUR for the "Stay" (better to say for the experience to switch the hotels at night, because the quality of the offered conditions did not correspond to the standards you would expect even from a hotel that charges 800 EUR per night. It did not meet the minimal requirement of normal temperature conditions). The Heaters were off. The lady at the lobby told my husband, that there is no other room. Not only to him but also to me on the phone, when he has called me at midnight telling me, that there was no heating in the room. I helped him out with the communication via the phone. We fortunately have not experienced this kind of treatment in any other hotel. The approach is unbelievable. None of the persons I have talked to is competent. They really don't care, that a person had to travel, had to sleep, had to have important meetings during the day and would like to have a clear situation about the stay. Just answer a few questions. Would you stay at a hotel, that charges 700 EUR per night without heating and freezing? Would you pay 700 EUR for a stay at the hotel, that did not happen, as the room was cold and you had to leave a few hours after getting in the room? Would you pay 700 EUR for a stay at the hotel, when you were told, that the hotel can not help you and you can solve your problem by yourself? would you pay 700 EUR for a stay, when you have already had to pay 500 EUR for another hotel? The hotel management stop to communicate with me when I put our lawyer in email copy! They just cancelled our reservation :)

We had a wonderful stay. We loved everything about the hotel. From booking one hour sauna to the great breakfast buffet with so many home made delicious things. The chill out lounce, the location, the gym the top pool the reference to the its history is spot on. Nice staff and insane good restaurant. We will rate it top stars no doubt.

I wrote this same review on google and the hotel’s lawyer sent a letter demanding I delete it. I had to provide a receipt of my stay to keep the review up. This experience gave me an even worse impression of this establishment, as they clearly don’t accept negative reviews or feedback. I’d stay away from this place. Definitely beautiful, but not particularly convenient. There’s no air conditioning so the heat wave in Berlin was unbearable - as soon as the sun rose it was impossible to stay in the room, which is quite frustrating considering the price. There’s a Michelin recommended restaurant but it’s only open at night Tuesday to Saturday. If you get in late and want a bite to eat there’s nothing to do. The hotel is big and everything feels sterile which gives it an eery feeling. The environments are not cozy and they aren’t very inviting to sit and enjoy. The hotel was converted by a family of architects who still manage the hotel and that is noticeable - there are so many details that feel like they were chosen based on aesthetics and not actual convenience or comfort for guests. Small details like more a full body mirror in the bedroom would have been highly appreciated. It felt like you were alone in this massive place and I didn’t feel like I could ask for things if I needed them, specially since the reception is separate from the main hotel. I would not stay here again.

Beautiful hotel hidden away in a courtyard. Former women's prison with a modern vibe and great breakfast. Our stay was 2 weeks long. Only complaint was the CONSTRUCTION noise 2 doors down from the hotel. I could see and hear the noise from 8:00 until they finished.The conistruction could be seen and heard from the courtyard where all rooms face. One night the work went on until 10:20 PM. Front desk eventually "called the police" to put a stop to the noise. It is a major project so I suspct the work will be going on for months. Other than that I would rate the hotel 5 stars.

The design aesthetic in this hotel is second to none. It has an absolutely beautiful minimalist scandi vibe, incredibly tranquil - the garden and outdoor courtyard are beautiful, the rooms light and airy and immaculately clean and well thought out. The fact that it is a former prison adds to the charm. Felt very peaceful here. I loved the communal areas and the Karl Blossfeldt prints and the general botanical vibe carried through from the garden to the lobby to the rooms. However perhaps it was too peaceful, bordering on a bit too reverential. I was travelling on my own and felt that the other guests were pretty aloof, because the reception is in another building you don't really see any staff apart from at breakfast. There isn't really a sociable vibe here. It felt slightly like staying in a quite sterile sanitarium from a movie. Had I been with others I might have enjoyed it differently. Didn't really get to enjoy the outside spaces because the weather was so rainy and bad. Two things I was disappointed in: The coffee was absolutely terrible. Sorry. I know others have said it was good, but personally I hate coffee from those automatic machines - bitter, artificial. I gave up after three days of three different variations. Really bad. I'd have preferred a nespresso machine. I ended up going to a cafe close by for my daily caffeine fix. Most of the week I was there the weather was terrible - cold and rainy - but on my last two days the weather turned hot and sunny. And the pool was closed. I deliberately chose this hotel because of the hotel pool and the thought of chilling with a book on the roof. To say I was disappointed is an understatement. Apparently there was something wrong with the ph balance - but really this was unacceptable in my book and made my last two days frustrating! Two things that were really great: So quiet and tranquil and beautiful, and the housekeeping staff did an amazing job of fixing the room up each day. Thank you! I had a very stressful last two days because my bank card was cancelled by my bank, because of fraud activity, and I didn't have another one to settle my bill. I arranged to pay by international bank transfer but because it was a weekend it wasn't going to clear until the Monday (I left on the Saturday). The reception and staff were sooooo nice and understanding and let me leave while still not having payment, trusting that it was going to work out on the Monday. I really appreciated them being so understanding and calm about it! This could have been a situation where the staff were nasty but they were very very gracious. This is a beautiful hotel if you want something discrete and away from the world. If you want a bit more of a vibe, then perhaps this isn't for you.
