I had always thought of the Sandpiper as a real dump. And it was. That was then. But now there is new, enthusiastic, management, and it is starting to actually be very appealing. The new manager, Les, has made enormous improvement in only four months on the job. It's still somewhat a work in progress, but enough has been done that my stay there was very enjoyable. Everything is very clean! The pools are thoroughly cleaned three times a week, and the water sparkles with clarity. The rooms have been painted and new floors put in, and Marcella, the housekeeper, keeps everything spotless. (I was not a bit surprised to hear that she previously worked in a hospital! ) My room was large, with a full kitchen and two queen beds. I had a private balcony with views of distant mountains and a front-row seat for beautiful sunsets. Some of the mechanicals are still being worked on, but if you are reading this some months after February 2022, Les probably has taken care of those already. The Sandpiper is well worth considering if you need a place to stay in Desert Hot Springs. It is finally recovering from long years of neglect and is well on the way to becoming a showplace.
