The Wyche Inn is a “pub with accommodation” situated near the top of the Malverns ridge close to Great Malvern itself. It’s a welcoming, well run place, which pays attention to small but important details – like providing a really good supply of coat hangers, or always restocking the tea things with exactly the right tea bags and biscuits. The local information package (including suggested walks) was one of the most interesting and informative I have ever seen. Our room was simple but had everything we needed and was clean and well maintained. Its star feature was a simply magnificent view out across Worcestershire, which because of the situation of the Wyche inn, I think all of the rooms share. The breakfasts are ample and well cooked, and overall we thought our stay was good value for money. Additional points:- • The Malverns hills are in an isolated ridge offering spectacular views over Worcestershire and Herefordshire. C.S. Lewis walked there regularly with J.R.R. Tolkein. Other luminaries – such as Charles Darwin, Evelyn Waugh and Edward Elgar almost certainly also visited. • Great Malvern is quirky, interesting, former Edwardian spa town with, for example, rare fluted Victorian pillar boxes and some of the last remaining street gas lighting in England. There is fun to be had in deciding which lamp post is the precise model for the one in the Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe (they must have been an inspiration). • Even better Ledbury is an easily overlooked historic town with lots of fascinating features and many mini museums which generally seem to be free. • Car parking at the Wyche Inn itself is limited. However, in our experience, there are plenty of spaces for parking on the road outside, and there is unlikely to be a serious problem.
