Shimungwe Lodge

If you seek a cozy hideaway for your safari adventure, Shimungew Lodge is the perfect choice! My friend and I were thoroughly delighted with the impeccable service, comfortable rooms, delicious cuisine, and attentive staff. We wholeheartedly endorse it with a perfect score of 10/10!

What a WONDERFUL place, the price is not only inclusive of all food but also morning & afternoon game dives through the Kruger where we saw not only the big five but also so much more! The lodge has to be one of the best & with just four double rooms, the staff to guess ratio is about 1:1 …… There’s three meals a day along with morning coffee & sundowners drinks in the bush are included. The days were long with optional early morning & late afternoon game drives but you can laze by the pool in the afternoons. They’re even a watering hole directly below the deck! I’d say two to three nights are perfect. Shimugwie is just a hours flight from Johannesburg. Hope to be back soon … 5 stars from us !

Just returned from a fantastic trip to Shimungwe. The intimate lodge is the perfect place to relax between game drives. Accomodation is perfect. All the staff are very friendly and will look after you well. Food delicious. A lovely pool to relax and cool off in. A very special place.

We have been on many safari's however this was our first time at this lodge. If you want a truly rustic, private safari experience, this is the place! It is a small lodge with 4 double rooms, overlooking a river - which went from dry to a full flowing river while we were there! Game viewing was exceptional - 4 different leopards, a pride of lions, large herds of elephants and buffalo. Our guide Lucan and Daniel his tracker brother were excellent. Their knowledge of that area, the animals and flora/fauna in general was amazing. Zanele, Karly, Megee(sorry about the spelling) and the rest of the small team, were very accommodating, nothing was too much trouble. Food was delicious and plentiful, rooms clean and tidy. If you're looking for a true safari experience where you want to be at one with nature and the bush, this is the place. Very, very good value for money. We have stayed at lodges costing 4 times as much, Shimungwe is up there with them in terms of game viewing and service. We would definitely visit again.

It is always wonderful to return to Shimungwe to enjoy the lodge and attentive staff who take care of your every request. The rooms are situated overlooking a dry river bed with a waterhole where many animals visit for a drink or a wallow. We love the outrides in the morning with our rusks and coffee and late afternoon for a sunset drink at a waterhole. Thank you for spoiling us once more!

It is a privilege to experience the amazing South African wildlife in such a well husbanded and developed area like Thornybush. The disciplines and strategies that they follow are World Class, in addition to this, to be guided by experienced and knowledgable guides like Lucan and Daniel, adds a totally different dimension to the experience. Then you are looked after by an amazing team of hoteliers who cater to your every need and ensure that you are comfortable, in well appointed rooms in a beautiful and tranquil setting. The fact that there are only ever a maximum of 8 guests enures a personalized service not obtainable anywhere else. A must for all.

Great visit to a special place in Timbavati. Excellent accommodation, game viewing and food. Besides potholed roads, easy to access.
