Coconut Beach Resort

Coconut Beach Resort is an oasis of calm in the otherwise faster but still laidback pace of Key West. Our second floor two bedroom unit looked out on the pool and the Sandy beach of the Atlantic. Except for a child on the third floor that ran around on our first night well into 11pm, the unit was quiet and peaceful. The kitchen enabled us to enjoy leisurely breakfasts and lunches inside or on the deck overlooking the ocean. The electric grills down in the pool area worked well for grilling two dinners we ate in residence. The interior of our unit showed its age with repairs and modifications too blatantly revealing their past history via poorly sparkled walls and sloppy painting and with most of the furniture looking like it is ready to take up residence in Goodwill. We were told upgrades are coming later this year. The resort is ideally situated for easy bipedal access to Duval and Simonton and is surrounded to the generalized west with a variety of quality, relatively inexperienced restaurants, art galleries and shops. My wife enjoyed her morning walks to the pier just north of the resort. Coconut Beach’s location could not be better to access the best of Key West.

We visited Key West coming from Miami this February and stayed at this hotel. When we checked in, we had some trouble finding the hotel’s parking but we eventually found it. Then we went to our room; we had a bit of trouble getting in the first time. The doors are keyless and unlocked with 6-8 digit PINs. We stayed in the two bedroom suite which was very nice and pretty although not cheap (~$500 per night). That said even though just the two of us stayed in the room it could sleep up to 6 if the sofa bed was used. One of the two bedrooms was spacious with a yellow bed and a great view of the pool. The other bedroom had a red bed and was darker and smaller, although still nice. The pool downstairs was nice, and kept at a pleasant, not cold temperature. The hot tub was very hot but once we got used to it it was very soothing and pleasant. Overall I would recommend the coconut beach resort in key west.

I’ll start with the pro’s: great location steps away from the southernmost point, military park and beach and walking distance from Duval street and shops, restaurants. Pool was nice and clean. The studio room was ok, free on site parking. Cons: the windows were covered with outside shutters so minimal light and no views, there were sugar ants all in the bathroom and main bed area, odd placement for a room, 3 bathrooms mirrors but not on the wall facing in front of you you had to turn completely away from the sink to look in a mirror, tub spout did not completely close off when you put the shower on. Having access to private beach would be nice if the beach was actually nice, full of sea**** and a terrible smell along with very minimal space of actual “beach”; pool was small but adequate. Average stay, I wouldn’t stay here again for the price.

Spacious apartments with 2 to 4 beds and a simple kitchenette. Key West is certainly a town where you want to self-cater. The resort has a privat beach, jacuzzi and pool. It is located in walking distance to Duval Street. Thus, conveniently close to the vibrant heart of Key West and still far enough from the cruisers and day-tourists.
