Hostal la Campana

Staff greet us as if we are family, room is cleaned every day, private bathroom too. Free air con and wifi. Also provided us with a wheelchair an absolute blessing, as a hire company from Gibraltar had let us down badly.

After looking at places with "quite extravagant" rates in Gibraltar, I decided on this place with a "pretty reasonable" rate and located just across the Spain - Gibraltar border (so close to be able to clearly see the Rock from the square "right beside" this place), and getting for that reasonable rate was my own "private room" fairly spacious in size and with amenities of an ensuite bath & a flat-screen TV (yes really kind of a "rare deal" I would say to get what I got at this place anywhere in Europe and especially in such a close proximity to such a "famous site"!). And not just for a great view of the Rock, the "sizeable square" (as just mentioned) is also quite convenient with places for food & miscellaneous all around it, and my "usual restaurant" during my 3-day stay was this nice Chinese restaurant just across the street on the "south side" of the square (the side with the Rock view). And so, if coming to stay here for the "Gibraltar visit" (like I was), it's just about a 10-minute walk south to the border (with also a "market row" to go through to get to the border and where it was just a short "border procedure" for about 10 minutes) followed by about a 15-minute walk to Gibraltar's "city center" and from which to the "bottom station" of the cable car is about another half-hour walk (with also a good "English breakfast", like the one I had, available at some of the restaurants along the way). And apart from Gibraltar, also right in La Linea itself and at just about a 15-minute walk east from this place (just straight along the "main street" behind this place by turning left on it) is the city's oceanfront with a "long & wide" beach & the "small ruin" of Fort Santa Barbara (where I went in & around that fort ruin, took a beach walk for some stretch and also had a "brief swim", and yes doing all those while being "towered over" by the Rock of Gibraltar just not too far to the south).

You get what you pay for, but this hostel delivers on its promises. It's a bed or two, internet, air contioning, a bathroom, and a door that locks. That's it. However, for about $50, that's very good. We were only staying for one night and trying to spend as little time as possible in the hotel so we could enjoy our surroundings, and it was all we needed it to be.

We stayed 1 night as a family of 4. The main purpose of our trip was a day visit to Gibralter. The location is great. Short walk to the border of Gibralter. Lots of nice bars and restaurants near by. Reception staff were OK. The room was basic, we expected that anyway. Beds were comfy, room was clean, tv and aircon in the room! The one thing that has put me off going back was the very strong smell of urine coming from the bathroom and in to the bedroom!

habitaciones viejas, humedades en la ventana, la almohada tenia pelos y pelotillas, el ac sucio, nos dieron otra habitación y estaba peor paredes sucias y ac echaba agua sobre un enchufe, desconchón en una pared donde se veía que faltaba un cuadro, nos llegaron a enseñar 5 habitaciones y era a cada cual peor, en las fotos de la web no se aprecia ni la suciedad de las paredes, ni el estado de camas y muebles, la foto de la recepción no cuadra con lo que hay después. Sinceramente no se de donde salen algunas valoraciones positivas. Se negaron a hacer devolución del precio del alojamiento. Hemos tenido que poner una hoja de reclamaciones y reclamar a paypal porque es del todo inaceptable, sucio y viejo. Por supuesto ni que decir tiene que nos hemos ido sin pasar la noche en semejante establecimiento.

Las sábanas con pelos y pelotillas, en pleno Julio tenía puestas mantas, el aire acondicionado sucio y olía mal, perdía agua, las paredes sucias con bichos y mocos pegados. Humedades en paredes y ventanas, sin medidas covid. Realmente un antro insalubre de mala muerte.

Ha sido una experiencia horrible. Me dan la habitación 50 euros la noche, sucia, el baño con el suelo manchado de pipí, la ducha con cinta aislante, la persiana no se podía subir, estuvimos a oscuras y sin ventilación y mucha suciedad en todas partes. Lo pienso y me dan nauseas. El trato en recepción de una chica negra de lo más despota y de un chico latino. No lo recomiendo, la ubicación estupenda pero es un sitio que deberían de multarlos por tratar a la gente como perros, sin bastante sucios
