I had afternoon tea arranged for me at Lifton Hall as a birthday treat and it was exceptional. Lifton Hall is a unique place and very cosy with low beamed ceilings and comfortable seating. Our table was already laid out for us and we had a warm welcome from Richard who brought our afternoon tea to the table, explaining in detail the selection of savoury and sweet food presented. The sandwiches were fresh and flavoursome and accompanied by a portion of homemade soup. cakes were in abundance (A Bun Dance?) with home made carrot cake, lemon drizzle cake, Portuguese Tarts, scones with clotted cream and jam, a fruit tartlet that exploded with flavours of berries and mint, mini trifle that packed a big punch - all helped along with a bottomless pot of quality tea. I've had tea/coffee, I've had cakes, I've had cream teas that I have enjoyed when I have been out visiting places but Lifton Hall just brought everything together in one creative flavoursome sitting. The bad points? looks like I'll have to go back and do it all again as I don't recall any bad points :) Lifton Hall also does a variety of intriguing foodie evenings and Sunday Brunch and Lunch so I would love to see how this stands up to their amazing afternoon tea offering.
