The Pyewipe

Served cold, and some frozen butterfly prawns for starter! Served burnt, crispy overcooked rump steak for mains. Nice front of house staff. Poor service from the kitchen, obviously no one checking the dishes coming out, or their standard, Terrible !

Food amazing ! The coleslaw is delicious I could have ate a massive plateful on it's own mmm...staff welcoming ! Will definitely be visiting on a regular basis. Only downside that it was a little chilly in bar area. Overall a really lovely experience

My family and I decided to go out for our Christmas meal last year (2023) and we all agreed on going to the Pyewipe as we all liked the sound of the menu. So, I made the booking and paid £10 each for the deposit (there was 4 of us). Unfortunately, 1 family member couldn't make it, so I rang up and informed them. I was told the extra £10 paid would just come off the bill on the day. Then the day came and I was absolutely shocked at the service we received. Our table was booked for 1200hrs , and by 1240hrs, we were on our third course. As soon as we'd finished our course, the plates were collected and the next course was in front of us. We had one drink throughout the meal as we were not asked if we wanted another. The staff were hovering over us, watching and waiting for us to finish. Then, after we had finished, I asked for the bill. When it came, it only had £30 taken off (even though I had paid £40). I raised this with the waitress, who said they would send the manager over. I then raised this with him, who informed me that they don't normally take deposits off the bill if you don't show, but as I was told on the phone they would, he would honour this. He returned with the new bill, placed it on the table, and went to get the card machine. As he left, he made a sarcastic comment of 'don't worry, I'll pay the difference'. I was a bit confused with this as I'd already paid the £10 he was taking off? My partner queried this with him, only to then receive more rude and sarcastic comments about how he has happy to make the payment. He also told us that as we amended the booking from 4 people to 3 , they've lost out on that seat and extra money? Given the cost of £76 per person, I'm absolutely appalled at the service we received.

We stayed in room 5 in the lodge. Have to say the mattress & bedding needs re- newing. Not a comfy night for sleeping. We have stayed at the Pyewipe quite a number of times of the last few years but this was not up to the standard we have come to expect previously. Everything else as good as usual. The lovely walk along the canal turn into a wade through floods, but this can’t be blamed on the Inn which is right next to the canal amidst fields. We stayed midweek and ate in. Monday & Tuesday meals were distinctly average but the young lady serving in the restaurant was very attentive and friendly. Wednesday, the restaurant was closed so ate in the bar. Food was much better but the service was hopeless. Needed a big sign saying “Order at the bar - otherwise you will be ignored”. Mind you, we could haves saved money by not telling them what had been missed off the bill. Our room at The Lodge was warm and comfortable but room cleaning needed improvement.

Stayed here for our first time in Lincoln, liked the fact that it was separate from the pyewipe pub, nice location, definitely not a 30 min walk to town, 100% a cab ride around £15. Room was a good size, nice bathroom, twin room with 2 double beds, tiny tv, but generally quite dirty! Cobweb spiders, walls dirty, hair in the sink, shower tiles dirty, just an older establishment but with some modern features. Overall adequate

Comfortable and nicely decorated rooms. Bed was good and everything was very clean. Yea/coffee making facilities were adequate. We did not have the breakfast but if the standard was like the evening meal, I’m sure it won’t disappoint Friendly and helpful staff. Good location if visiting Lincoln city centre

After a previous visit to the restaurant there was a mistake of being over charged £17, but we thought we'd give it another visit as mistakes do happen, however: There was only the 2 of us in the bar area and 6 staff behind the bar, yes 6. However I did not expect to have to wait for service until they stopped talking or looking at their phones. That's the 1st cross in the box. The young lady took our orders without writing them down, she has a good memory apparently plus it was only 2 meals the same, but one with mash potatoes and one with chips. Easy you'd think. The meals came out, both with mash!! I reminded her that one should be with mash and the other with chips, the plate was taken away and soon came back with twice cooked crispy dark brown chips and the mash had been scrapped off the plate and the gravy was still dripping off the edge of the plate. The quality of the food has gone downhill, the quantity has gone down, the service was shocking and the prices have gone up................. I think after this visit we will not be returning!!

We stayed in the lodge,which is separate,but part of the pub. The room was clean, had everything we needed,quiet even though there is a busy road a short distance away. Good value - £90 for double room plus £10 each for a very nice breakfast. We ate at the restaurant in the evening- great food! And had lunch on the sunny terrace by the canal. Easy walk into Lincoln along the canal footpath. Recommend.
