When my family decided to go to Memphis, we just new we had to stay at the historic Peabody hotel. There are several reasons why I gave this review 4 stars instead of 5. First, I'll start with parking. There are two options, valet and self park. The self parking is quite high at $29/day (including tax I believe) and the parking garage is a long way from the entrance to the hotel. We would have to head down 10 mins early to get the car everytime we wanted to go somewhere. It's not necessarily the fault of the hotel, but just be prepared. The next reason I gave 4 stars is because check-in took quite awhile. We checked-in during the peak hours of check-in I'm sure (6p). They only had 2 people checking guests in. Thankfully someone finally came to the desk, and helped get the line down. Another reason for the rating is the size of the rooms. As I've said the hotel is historic and old, and rooms were a lot smaller back then. The rooms have recently been updated, which is nice, but I've never seen such small rooms. The bathrooms are the smallest I've ever seen in a hotel. There's definitely no wasted space. Also, there isn't a light in the closet, which is also a first for me. You have to use the light in the bathroom to see what you're doing. My parents were in an Executive suite. While it was bigger, they still said the bathroom was incredibly small. Overall though I would say it was a good stay. They do a daily turndown service with chocolates and bottled water (these are paid for by the service/resort fee they charge). The Wifi wasn't very good. It would randomly drop out and then re-connect. Maybe it was where I was in the hotel, but since you pay for the wifi (again included in the service fee) you'd think there wouldn't be any dropouts. The ducks are what make the hotel famous. If you want to see the duck march I would suggest seeing it from the mezzanine level. It gives you a good view of the fountain. Also, if you are staying multiple days, one of the best things to do is go to the roof before the return march begins. That way you can see the ducks come off the elevator and go back to their home. We did that on our 2nd day there and there was nobody up there. Everything is branded with the ducks, so just get ready to pay more just because of that. The hotel itself isn't in the greatest part of town. If you are planning to walk around and go to shops/restaurants just be cognizant of your surroundings. If you are going to stay in Memphis, you need to stay here just because it's famous and that way you can say you stayed there. It is one of the nicer hotels in Memphis, however just be prepared you're most likely going to overpay for what you get.
