Bickleigh Castle

Our family of 4 recently stayed at Bickleigh Castle for 3 nights. We had a wonderful stay and the hosts were very kind and helpful throughout our stay. John met us at check in and made sure we had everything we needed for breakfast each morning. He also took time to give us a very nice and informative tour of the castle. He was very pleasant to converse with throughout our stay, and he knew what seems like every detail of the castle! The area was beautiful around the castle as well. My girls thought it was really a neat and unique experience.

We stayed the weekend of 22nd - 24th March in the Tudor Suite/Bridal Suite. It was pretty amazing. The only room within the castle it self. The hosts Sarah and John were lovely and very knowledgable. John showed us around the Castle explaining the various rooms including the Great Hall and the stories that went along with it. Absolutely delightful. A couple of nice places to eat within walking distance and many heritage sites to visit. Thank you so much for making our stay their memorable. Would definitely recommend.

We went on the History Tour on the 18th December. What a fabulous fact filled afternoon in a house with so much history and so many interesting items and artifacts. John could relate anything to the building, owners, local events, royal events, or UK history! A mine of information. Only constraint was the time, or we could have stayed for much longer. Made so welcome with mulled wine, mince pies, and a roaring fire in the main hall. Will certainly go back again.

Highly recommended property with a lovely hostess (Sarah) and conscientious family staff. The castle and grounds are fantastic and the church was beautiful (we could only see the outside). I don't care for cats but the one here followed me everywhere and was very precocious. This is a peaceful and serene retreat and the castle is beautifully lit at night. The grounds are impeccably clean and everything is convenient. Sarah even upgraded our room because we were the only visitors. A gracious hostess with lots of stories and interested in ours as well. What a treat.

We were given a gift voucher to visit Bickleigh Castle , it was absolutely delightful, excellent guide who was so knowledgeable, followed by a delicious cream tea. It was all utterly charming. Would definitely recommend!!

The bedroom was tiny with no room to put clothes or lay out your luggage. The tea and coffee tray was baking in the sunshine and the milk cartons were in direct sunlight, the chair in the room was horribly stained, the bathroom had a skylight that was operated by a filthy piece of rope. The plug point next to the bed had an extension lead that was just left on the floor.

Perfect setting for a Devon cream tea. Scones were heavenly, light and delicious. The castle tour exceeded our expectations. John did a marvelous job of re counting the history of the castle, characters and art works seamlessly. Afterwards we were free to stroll around the beautifully kept gardens. The staff were wonderful. We were celebrating a birthday and they kindly presented the cream tea with balloons and decorations which we'd brought along. Thank you for making our visit magical x

This is an excellent place to stay, the best B&B we have ever stayed in, extremely comfortable and quirky in an interesting and pleasant way. The owner, John her cousin and all the staff could not have been more welcoming, helpful, and entertaining. Nothing was too much trouble for them including allowing our dog to stay in our room. When you go and you really must go there, take a tour of the Castle with John so enthusiastic and knowledgeable not only about the history of the castle but also the local history. He will even play the organ in the Chapel if you ask. The rooms were all incredibly good, clean, and well stocked with tea and coffee; beds were excellent comfortable with great pillows. The Castle is a gem just to walk around the grounds and see the many alterations and changes which have taken place over the past 1000 + years. The Chapel dates from Saxon times and is so interesting with small incredibly old stained-glass windows, so well preserved. Breakfast was particularly good, with great choices, John makes excellent poached eggs and Barbra is a pleasure to speak with, if a little eccentric. Lots of toast, Honey, Jams etc. Please go to visit and stay, even have you wedding in this Castle you will not be disappointed. Thanks to everyone there, for allowing us to stay in and enjoy your Castle.

As Gorgeous as the castle is and the staff were excellent and fun one big thing out a downer on the whole wedding event we attended. Sarah! The owner/mum. She was horrid she shouted constantly at the staff in front of us one guest went to speak to her and directly in front of him she told him to f**k off she was rude to the guests. Just a a whole she puts the place down. The daughter and 2 male bar staff and kitchen staff on the other hand were amazing friendly made us welcome laughed joked. I just feel bad they had to perfusly apologise for the mothers behaviour and whole attitude. I personally do not want to visit again as long as the mother is involved.
