We spent two nights in Alquimiste and we never wanted to leave! The guesthouse which is almost 100 years old is full of antique furniture, original artwork, and even has a lookout tower on the 4th floor boasting 360 views of the Carrasco neighborhood.
It is a 2 minute walk from the beach and very close to some of Montevideo’s most famous restaurants. Carolina and Mark are delightful and happy to help with anything.
The restaurant is lovely, and the breakfasts is a real treat. Hot croissants, freshly baked scones with marmalade and cream cheese, freshly squeezed orange juice, and beautifully plated granola we’re just some of our favorites.
Staying at Alquimiste, you really feel like you are apart of something special!

I spent a week at Alquimista Montevideo and it was a very relaxing, restorative experience. It's a beautiful space, clearly decorated and maintained with care. I enjoyed leisurely breakfasts with big pots of tea in the cozy dining area and while it rained a bit while I was there, I did manage to get out into the lovely garden a couple times. Carolina and Mark were great hosts and the whole team was very friendly and professional. I would absolutely recommend Alquimista Montevideo to anyone looking for a special place to stay while in Uruguay.

We only stayed one night with Carolina & Mark as we wanted to be closer to the airport for an early flight but also still experience the city. Carrasco is a lovely neighborhood and the house is beautifully restored/maintained. Carolina went above and beyond and left us breakfast so we'd have something before the flight and loaned us a guide book about our next stop! They were both so welcoming and helpful and we wish we had staying another couple nights and gotten to try the restaurant as well. Hopefully there's a next time!

We stayed in the hotel and were hugely impressed. The couple who run the hotel were charming and very helpful (they each speak perfect Spanish and English). The hotel was of a very high standard - there were lovely original features mixed with more modern touches. The food at lunch and at breakfast was delicious.

Charming and cozy hotel and Restaurant. Excellent and very private service. Great location at Carrasco neighborhood, two blocks away from ramblas and river beach. Lots of very good references for wineries visits nearby. We highly recommend. Lúcio and Daniela, Curitiba, Brazil

Excelente por donde se lo mire. Se trata de una casona de principios del siglo XX en muy buenas condiciones. La ducha y el colchón (fundamentales) son de primera. Nos tocó el ático, y no sólo es una habitación amplia sino además impecable. La atención, el servicio, la decoración y la limpieza son perfectos. Posee un restaurante muy distinguido.

Notable la experiencia. El desayuno 10/10. Variado, bien preparado y muy sabroso. La habitación estaba ordenada y era muy agradable. Además el baño era espacioso y la dicha muy agradable. Lo único que tendría que comentar para la mejora sería entregar mas llaves de acceso para el exterior por si uno sale de noche. Y que al llegar a la pieza el primer día había un olor a humedad m, pero al ventilar un rato se fue.

La casona es espectacular, tiene un patio increíble y toda la deco es alucinante. La habitación muy acogedora y cuidadosamente decorada. Un sín fin de detalles disfrutables en esta estadía. Comimos espectacular. La atención muy buena y todos muy serviciales. Felicitaciones!! No cambien!
