The Chequit

This is a stunning and most recently renovated hotel. Amenities are needing assistance. Otherwise a great place. We would have stayed another day had their been some hotel room guest amenities. This is a newly appointed hotel. I think by summer 2024 they will be on top of the experience.

This is not just a hotel but a true boutique experience. The hotel was built in a grand old house, and with a living room “lobby” and just 30 some rooms, this place feels truly homey. Every detail has been accounted for in the room, with some nice touches and lovely amenities. Soft robes, luxury bath products, rainfall glass shower, comfy king size bed, and more make every room feel like a suite. Shelter Island itself is a quaint beach town and The Chequit is a gem within it. The restaurant patio is also a beautiful spot for lunch on a breezy day! Couldn't recommend this place more.

Cute, accommodating,hospitable and fun. From front desk to bar staff they are hospitable as all get out you should stay here if you want to stay on Shekter Island. There’s also good food and stuff. But this is the place to stay. Ask for Nell the bartender in the basement.

Very clean and well appointed rooms, beds very high quality and showers best i have ever seen. The lobby and common areas are very top class, and the tavern has great food and really fun atmosphere. The bar has a full selection of all options and the pool table was a great option for competition.

The hotel booked us a room on the ground level next to a restaurant that is open until 11pm, public bathroom and main entry doorway 3 feet away from the room. It felt like they didn't use ANY soundproofing -- Terrible noise quality where my partner and I couldn't sleep at all! They gave us a nice room the next day but we were extremely disappointed that they booked us the grand floor room without letting us know about its low qualities or offered any discount when each night was around $700. The windows also faced the back where construction workers are around so felt like there was no privacy. If you are a sensitive person like me, I would check in with them about the details.

My husband and I spent one night in Shelter Island at this hotel and had a very nice time. Rooms are clean and in good shape - very minimalist so there really are not many tables or places to put your stuff. Bed was a bit noisy and it took a very long time to get hot water but it did work eventually. The restaurant was excellent and I would definitely stay here again.

My husband and I wanted to get away and relax for the long weekend. It was our first time at The Chequit and Shelter Island. We loved it! The Chequit had just finished a renovation and we found our room to be charming, clean, and comfortable. The rain shower was lovely, the bed linens top of the line, and the bed quite comfortable. What attracted us was our ability to bring our 7-year-old Maltese, who due to autoimmune disease cannot be boarded with other dogs. The hotel was very welcoming to her as well and she loved getting a treat when we passed the front desk. The staff were all wonderful and could not have been more accommodating. We ate for two nights in the restaurant as it was so delicious, we decided to stay on the property and relax. The island offers a low-key vibe to recharge your battery . We will be back!

This is a review of the restaurant, not the hotel. The entire dining area has been completely revamped and it looks awesome. Indoor and outdoor seating were comfortable and great looking. The sushi heavy menu has a great selection and it was hard to narrow it down for ordering. Ultimately we got the martini rock shrimp tempura and a selection of rolls including spicy tuna and shrimp tempura rolls among other things. Everything was amazingly delicious. The tuna tacos and a cheeseburger were also consumed and enjoyed. Our waiter, Nima, was excellent and super friendly. Can’t wait to go back!
