Firstly, the location is great, especially for shopping in Ave Montaigne and it is a nice hotel. But I have to agree this is not a 5 star hotel and having recently stayed at the Savoy in London, can confidently say there was no comparison. On arrival we were allocated an accessible room (which we hadn’t asked for/didn’t need) with an unsettling open plan shower/loo/sink/clothes storage combo. There was no explanation of why we were in this type of room. By day 3 my husband was tired of using towels to try to stem the flood of water from spreading across this whole area when we showered. I also badly cut my thumb on the door between the bedroom and bathroom. There was lots of humming and hawing at reception before we were allocated another room (they admitted we’d been given the accessible room as it was the only one available when we checked on and we’re made to feel they were doing me a favour by moving us). And when I explained about the cut on my thumb, the receptionist just looked bemused by the fact that I would share with him information about how a piece of equipment in his hotel caused me injury. Fortunately I had my own plasters as I was not being offered one - or an apology. The second room was fine. At least it had the loo in a cabinet and a door on the ‘wardrobe’. But it was again in the bathroom (is that a thing now?). Both rooms showed sign of wear and tear e.g. burn marks on varnish. On the plus side, the bed linen was pristine, the beds were comfy, both rooms were very quiet and most of the staff were pleasant and helpful. However, NO truly 5 star hotel would serve breakfast in a bar area on tables that are, for the most part, too small for the purpose. It was like Tetris every morning trying to fit stuff in. Absolutely unacceptable. And the icing on the cake was when we were almost overcharged when we checked out. Overall, not the 5 ⭐️ experience we were expecting (or had paid for).
