Naughtons Hotel

Second visit Second time here in the restaurant for a winery lunch and it was just as good as the first visit. The food was absolutely delicious. For me, the ceviche was the standout. Beautifully flavoured with some fascinating texture and pop from the finger limes. The service was superb too - particularly from Hamish and Milly who were outstanding. Top class stuff. This is a brilliant gastro pub experience. We’d happily return here anytime First visit Came here for a winery lunch. It’s good. The dining area is lovely and well appointed. The food was good but maybe not top draw. The best course was an unusual one. It was advertised as mussels with bread and we expected a bowl of mussels with some bread on the side. Instead it was mussels on the bread with lovely green touches. It was a lovely dish. The wines from Narkoojee were exceptional and the pairings were excellent. Service was variable throughout. It was spectacularly good from our prime server Grace but typically less impressive from other servers except the senior male manager who was really good. It’s a nice gastro pub, and we’d happily return anytime.

I’ve read many reviews of this pub that described great ambience and excellent food and so put it on my ‘must visit list’ as it’s pretty close to where I live. The restaurant scores 4.5 on this site which was another reason to visit. The menu reads well with some great sounding dishes but that’s where it ends. The food was extremely disappointing. The chicken curry was tasteless and the ‘homemade’ nan bread inedible. The fish had a thick, heavy batter and the pea puree more like poorly mashed peas. Alcoholic drinks are expensive and the service was patchy. All in all an expensive, disappointing meal. I definitely won’t be returning, there’s plenty of other pubs nearby that deliver what they advertise.

This place always delivers the goods. An old favorite. Best for Sunday roast dinner or lunch. Menu changes seasonally. Live pie night tues as well. Frequented by well heeled locals as well as university students alike. Friendly staff. Gorgeous warm atmosphere.

We attended here for a celebratory festive lunch. The service was fast and friendly. The food was fresh and delicious. I had the tomato, strawberry and burrata salad - simply yum. Others had the seafood pasta which also looked amazing. I would highly recommend and would return next time I'm in the area.

We had a table at the very back of the restaurant. Perfect for someone in our group with limited hearing. Staff attentiveness and friendliness was amazing. Shared a range of entrees - all excellent. We all chose from the roast menu, every meal was excellent and all served with perfect yorkshire puddings. Would highly recommend, excellent food, service and value. Repeat customers.

Perfect for a big group of diverse tastes: I am veggo and used to terrible offerings with no protein that leave you unsatisfied. The cauliflower cooked in the Josper oven was fab- lentils, smokey, ?some labnah. Dessert of poached pears& amazing chocolate ice cream & walnuts! Lots of different spaces and table sizes. Would re book - what greater commendation?!

This is a lovely little hotel with only 10 rooms. There's a restaurant/pub below with excellent food. It closes before 10pm, so no real issue with noise there. I was given room 104 which was their largest room with a sitting area. It has no view which wasn't the real issue. The problem was a large compressor outside the window which went on and off all night which disturbed the sleep quality. I requested a change of room and the staff were happy to oblige, most politely with no questions asked. I was given one of the rooms facing the main road which was not particularly busy and so was essentially quieter. However the trams start at about 5.45am which woke me up early (luckily I had to wake up about then anyway to catch my international flight). There was some other noise at around 2am with a couple of guys talking loudly outside but that's another story ... The other problem I had is that I suffer from allergy and this bothered me during my 3 night stay. I suspect that the carpet was made from wool (which I'm allergic) to rather than feather pillows (which I'm also allergic to). But this would not be an issue for normal folk! Overall, I liked this place. Loved the boutique style. The food downstairs was delicious. Staff were polite. I chose this hotel because of the location close to the Uni.

Naughton's Hotel is a pub with personality. The staff are friendly and happy to have a chat. The menu is good and the prices are reasonable. It's on Royal Parade, adjacent to Princes Park. For many years, Naughton's has been associated with the Carlton Football Club, the "Old Dark Navy Blues." Carlton is one of the most successful clubs in the Australian Football League (AFL), but it's going through a lean spell at the moment.
