Saorsa 1875

Went with my wife for the Saorsa Xmas package this year and it was all kinds of wonderful. The staff are just the friendliest bunch you’d ever want to meet… learned our names, favourite drinks and generally just made it feel like we were all part of one big party. The hotel is gorgeous and cosy, and it’s in the most gorgeous area. All in all it’s hard to fault this place. Oh, did I mention the food?! The head chef, Sam (?) is a wizard. Already planning our return to Pitlochry to find an excuse to go back to Saorsa. Thank you to Sandra, John, Lucy, Sam, Abby, April and Leo, and everyone else who made this Christmas so perfect. Hope you all get a good break now!

We paid £1,800 for a 3 night Christmas break and then a further £200 to stay for an extra night. We felt that it was a lot of money but thought we would treat ourselves. The hotel looked impressive, the surroundings beautiful and on entering ,the decor was eclectic and pleasing to the eye. However my husband’s worst fears were confirmed when we were told that meals would be served at a large communal table. This reminded him of Pontins in the 1970s and he was not thrilled. In fairness we were told later on that another couple were not happy either and tables for 2 were sorted- in a different room . No one wanted to appear anti social on the first evening so we and the other couple joined the main group. The couple sitting next to us said that they would prefer to sit separately too. It was very noisy and not easy to hear what people were saying. From that point on we decided to sit in the separate dining room. We noticed a young couple having their lunch by the fire in the bar and thought it would be nice to have our evening meal there so that is where we decided to sit. This did not go down well at all. The owner looked very annoyed. The table was quickly set. We were questioned by someone .I assume it was the owner’s partner. It went something like: Him- Didn’t you fancy sitting on the big table tonight? Me- No Him- Oh why was that? Me- Well it’s just nice to come away at Christmas, relax and not do anything you don’t want to do. Him- Oh yes when we first opened people said ‘ Oh no not the big table!’ Me -Yes that’s because not everyone wants to sit there. I was starting to get a bit annoyed. The previous evening I was a little concerned about the protein content of the meal. It came in courses -which I expected but there was little physical evidence of peas, beans , lentils , nuts or vegan cheese. Each course was basically an arty vegetable on a scraping of something with possibly a drizzle. Tonight’s offering was similar. The courses also took ages to come out. My husband asked for some ice to take to our room and was told that some would be sent up. It didn’t happen and he came down in his pyjamas 20 mins later to ask again . The owner then stropped off to get some, clearly not happy. The next day we started to worry that our Christmas dinner was going to be more of the same. Some of the casual diners had ordered a nut roast dinner for lunch which looked brilliant.We enquired and were told that no we wouldn’t be having that. We were offered one at lunch time on Boxing Day if we paid an extra £20 each. We thought we were having a roast lunch on Boxing Day as we had paid £ 2000 but it turned out to be soup and half a sandwich - a very pretty half a sandwich and there was some protein in the form of chick peas. Christmas dinner was more of the same. There was a course of a slice of Wellington which I think may have had some food value We spent about £50 at the bar. My son and daughter in law gave us a voucher as a gift . H

Amazing stay in Scottish Highlands! The hotel is an incredible historic building which has been given a funky and luxurious vibe to it. It's set in stunning grounds with its own private woods where we chilled on a warm spring evening in their own garden huts. Really great stay thanks to Sandra, John and Lucy being fab hosts. We're not Vegan but could be persuaded by the superb breakfast and 5 course meal we had on the Saturday. Great wines, local beers & whiskies and perfect location close to Ben Vrackie and walking distance to Pitlochry centre, pubs and lochs! Ideal for the Etape Caledonia too, down the hill to the start line! :) What more can I say! Thanks to the team at Saorsa for a brilliant stay! T&E

We loved our two night stay here. The atmosphere was cool and laid back. We ate at the restaurant both nights and had tea in the bar after (we don't drink alcohol but so many nice teas and soft drinks and mocktails presented in an amazing way so didn't feel like we were missing out). Our room was lovely and it's a really peaceful amazing setting. Would 100% reccommend.

Wow! What a great place - cosy, comfortable, close to town and friendly, accommodating staff but the best part is the food. The best food we ate in 2 weeks across Scotland. If you have the chance to spend a night or weekend in Pitlochry and you're vegan (or just want to sample the best vegan food in the country), book Saorsa!

If you like the idea of a small Scottish hotel stay, but you are vegan, then Saorsa 1875 is for you. The decor is quirky, modern and homely. The staff are excellent. The rooms are beautiful. It is definitely not your aircon, can't open the windows type of place! The grounds are like being in the middle of a wood. We saw a red squirrel - a treat if you are from the Midlands. The food: So lovely not to have to hunt for the vegan option. The tasting menu is delightful, so good we had it twice! We stayed for birthday celebrations. My daughter, aged 24 said that the breakfast is the best ever! We will be back :)

Amazing hotel - the food, the wine, the comfy beds. We had a brilliant time. I'm still thinking about that 5-course dinner menu, which was delicious. It's such a treat to have all that choice of fresh vegan food. Such a friendly welcome from the staff, too; we can't wait to come back.

This is such a lovely hotel. The rooms are very comfortable, staff friendly and helpful, and Pitlochry is lovely. We went for 3 nights, to celebrate a special birthday and our wedding anniversary. We couldn’t have picked anywhere better. BThe food, both from Michael (sous chef) and Patrick ( head chef) was amazing. Highly recommended.
