Came across this pub last summer when exploring the local area, and didn't realise that their menu had such a focus on seasonal, local food so we had to come back. Booked a table this weekend and the menu really did live up to expectations. We had the juniper infused pheasant breasts to start, I had pork belly with chargrilled fennel and cider sauce and my friend had the feta, spinach and broccoli bake. The pork belly was done to perfection, never have I had any so soft before. It was so juicy and tender and I was able to cut straight through. But both my friend and I both agreed that the highlight of the meal was the starter. Pheasant was cooked with such skill and the flavours were incredible. Everything complimented each other really well. This place serves proper pub portions but the menu really is a cut above the rest. Such high quality cooking and such local, beautiful ingredients. So nice to have somewhere like this so local to us that offer food like The Lion does. Definitely worth a visit, we'll back very soon.
