Stayokay Rotterdam undoubtedly has one of the best locations the entire city has to offer. If you get off the train at Rotterdam Blaak, you'll find the hotel right at the doorsteps of the station. It's also just a minute away from the huge Markthal and you'll find a local farmers' market open every Tuesday and Saturday. The room is minimalistic, you literally get 2 beds and you'll also have to make them up yourself with the linens provided. You'll notice that the room is in an odd shape, but that's because of the cube's construct which makes for an interesting experience. Unfortunately, that's all there is to the hotel, because all the other parts are disappointing to say the least. Despite having rules on being "quiet" to respect other guests after 10PM, the staff at Stayokay Rotterdam obviously does nothing to stop anyone from being noisy. My spouse and I couldn't sleep at all - and my other half even had to resort to using noise cancelling earbuds just to block off the noise the entire night. People were stomping around their rooms, slamming doors, and screaming and shouting - but the staff did nothing to stop them. If you absolutely want to stay here, do bring ear plugs or risk not sleeping the whole night. The toilet in the room was another disappointing experience, as you'll find the water shuts off after every 30 seconds so you have to keep pushing down the button if you want to clean yourself off. There was an overwhelming stench of pee in the toilet from the moment we stepped into the room, so I'm wary if deep cleaning is a part of their everyday "room service" routine. Towels are not provided, so bring your own. I heard you can rent them from the hotel, but I didn't get any. Soap is provided, but you'll have to get your own toiletries like toothbrushes and toothpaste. No hairdryer could be found in the room either. Finally, we were rushed out of the room well before the check-out time, because housekeeping kept wanting to come inside. We were told that check-out was 11AM, but housekeeping came banging on our doors at 930AM, 10AM, and 1045AM. When we mentioned that we are aware of the check-out time and we were just packing up, they reacted angrily that they need to clean the room for the next batch of guests. This was odd to us, since they don't even make the beds - we had to do them ourselves when we first checked-in. Also, check-in was only at 2PM, so they definitely didn't have to prepare for anyone at 11AM. Overall, our overnight experience at Stayokay Rotterdam was highly convenient but the stay itself was disappointing to say the least. Definitely not a spot for kids or for the elderly. There is a lift inside the hotel itself, but you'll have to walk up several steps to get to the lobby. While it's not that expensive, I really wouldn't stay again and would rather pay a little more for a hotel or hostel where I can at least get some rest.
