We've vacationed on San Andres for over 16 years, many years multiple times but, it has declined in quality in every respect to the point we will never return. The people have taken on a very negative attitude toward all tourists, not just us. If you ask someone in a hotel or restaurant (two restaurant exceptions) for something, you may get it but, by the time it arrives (if it ever arrives) you've already finished eating. Many times, you just get this far off stare, like they're looking straight through you... Almost like suddenly caught far off thoughts. No one seems to enjoy their work... NO ONE. The beaches are no longer clean in bright. You find trash everywhere and lots of sea**** piled up on the shore. In May of this year (2021) it was impossible to reach the water because the sea**** was piled so wide and so thick (and it smelled terrible). We just returned from our last visit (Sept 2021) and the beaches had been cleaned but, by the time we left it was building up again. I was told by some staff, "keeping their section of the beach is their responsibility. If you plan to stay in one of the hotels on or near the main Bright Beach, you'd better take a respirator because the stench of sewage is overpowering. There a throngs of people so, I guess maybe the COVID virus has destroyed their sense of smell. Generally speaking, restaurant food on the island is pretty average Colombian, with very bad service. However, there are two very good restaurants... La Casa Blanca and La Regatta. You'll have to get through the sewage smell to get to La Casa Blanca but, once inside, it's air conditioned and sealed against the outside orders and seating starts at 7PM and no reservations required. La Regatta is on the bay, away from the main beach, and suffers no sewage odors. It can be romantic, if there's no rain and get outside seating. The food (sea food) is great. However, make sure you obtain reservations well in advance of your trip because, the place is always booked far in advance (more than a week). The water is not potable. Don't even brush your teeth with it. The sad truth is, San Andres was so bad, this past visit is our last. We will never return to San Andres again in the future.
