Quinta da Abelheira

Quinta da Abelheira is one of the few places we've stayed in all our years of travel that EXCEEDED our expectations. It's a lovely, historic estate with extensive and well-landscaped grounds and views of the ocean. You feel a sense of seclusion and safety, although the Azores feel very safe in general. There are rooms in the main house and a cluster of stand-alone rooms/suites, which are sleekly modern. We stayed in one of the suites, which was amazingly spacious and pristine and filled with amenities. We had a terrace and wonderful privacy. The breakfast, served in the main house, was very generous, one of the most generous we've encountered in our travels. But what really sets Quinta da Abelheira apart is the hospitality of its staff. Everyone we encountered seemed genuinely friendly and intent on making us comfortable. But here we have to single out one person that made our stay special--our hostess Filipa. Her open-hearted friendliness and generous commi**ent of time to help us make the most of our stay was extraordinary. It reinforced our belief that one person's kindness can truly make an impact. The Quinta is not an inexpensive place to stay, but in our opinion it gives you full value for your Euros.

Beware of this hotel ...real or scam?? I made a reservation on their website in March, got a written confirmation with all details including the price , dates , length of stay , extra for rollaway bed etc..To finalize the booking, two choices was given : bank transfer or with credit cards. It was asked on the confirmation to send the credit card number via email to"reservas@azoreanbliss.com" (which I don't think it is safe to do) OR to call the Quinta to give my credit card number. For obvious security reasons, i've opted for the second choice. I've been trying for the last two weeks to call the phone numbers on their website, numerous times, unsuccessfully...no one ever picks up the phone. They have another email address "info@azoreanbliss.com". I got a totally different quote writing to this email ( Lucía was writing to me with c.c. to Felipe Frias ) for the same stay. The price was 60% more expensive. When I send over the written confirmation with a different pricing (cheaper), they NEVER write back to me till this day. I first find out about Quinta da Abelheira on Booking and *******. They have a very well made website. What attracts me to this Quinta is its location just outside of Ponta Delgada in a rural settings; beautifully appointed bedrooms and above all, their highly rated service....but my experience up to know leaves me with many doubts about their truth existence. Another disturbing facts: all travel websites ex : Booking, *******, Agoda, Priceline etc.. temporary excluded this Quinta from their platform during these two last weeks ( the message was " currently, no reservation can be made for this hotel on our website..". As of today, these websites allow again reservation for this Quinta but the reception are still unreadable by phone or by email. We've traveled as a family extensively around the globe. I've always planned my trips myself and this is the very first time I encountered such a bizarre situation. This hotel has five stars reviews n the past...I am wondering what has changed? This review is aimed to raise awareness among travellers of scams on the web.

Just returned from a really relaxing visit to this exceptional property. Wonderful service from Joanna prior to arrival , with support and recommendations on restaurant bookings . Similarly highly personalised and excellent service from the team throughout our stay and a particular thanks to Pedro Our suite was perfect - modern design, extremely comfortable and well thought out living space. Tranquil location, superb view for breakfast and abundant freshly prepared selection of everything you can think of . Will definitely be back, and highly recommend Quinta Da

We just returned from 11 nights at Quinta da Abelheira. We stayed in a garden suite with 2 adults and 2 young teenagers (they were sold out of all other room categories so we made due with one suite so never looked at other room categories). The decision to stay here was one of the best of our whole Azores vacation and we are very picky. You will realistically need a car or taxi to get around from the Quinta but it is only 10 minutes to Ponta Delgada and a great starting point for activities in all directions. Best aspects of hotel: Lovely location on a hill, can see ocean in the distance (but not a neighborhood that is beautiful to walk around). Best part of this place is just hanging out inside the Quinta walls. Newly renovated/modern design, very clean, roomy, despite hotel being full, you never feel like tons of people are there. Relaxing environment at pool, pool heated, poolbar available for a drink or quick bite most of the day. Breakfast is gorgeous and delicious, with many home-made items, everything fresh, one of the best I have experienced. Staff (from management to housekeeping) is absolutely wonderful, ready to help in any way possible. Negatives: very few -- but price is higher than other plces. Bed situation for our kids could have been better. Couch very small/narrow as a bed, we should have asked for extra roll-away bed and the one we had for one child was also narrow compared to other hotels we have stayed at. Breakfast officially starts at 8:30am (they are busy making everything fresh!!), but sometimes when off to activities everything is not ready, you will have enough to eat -- you just may not have whole selection. Otherwise close to perfect experience. We would definitely stay again!

Beautiful hotel. Very tranquil. We stayed in the main house. Breakfasts were great & buffet style. You could sit outside & enjoy the lovely views. It’s a bit out of the way so you need taxis to eat in town. The kids loved the swimming pool which was great after a hot day. Weirdly to call reception you had to phone a Portuguese number rather than an internal phone.
