Sugar Tree Inn

The people here are so nice and this is such a well-run bed and breakfast. The buildings and the site are so interesting and historic. My wife was not a fan of the road in at all, but for me it just made it that much more of an adventure. The food was great. I enjoyed hiking at Crabtree Falls, we checked out Gertie's for dinner which was a fun experience, and we also went to nearby McCormick Farm which was scenic and historical. We stayed in St. Mary's Cabin which was very roomy, comfortable, and peaceful.

very special stay in the Blue Ridge. Don’t miss this off the beaten track mountain experience. The inn is made from 200 yr old timbered pine, so authentic. A marvelous stone fireplace. Excellent hosts, great breakfast. Big comfortable bedrooms. Just what you want for a Virginia country stay. Highly recommend!

The is a beautiful, rustic log cabin type inn that provides breakfast and dinner. They also offer wine by the bottle, and a variety of alcohol for you to purchase. Our room had a king size bed and fireplace, but note there is no TV. We were able to watch TV on our phone though. This is a very nice romantic place to spend time at... if you can get to it. The driveway is no joke. We had a 4x4 truck and some of the inclines were so steep we were spinning out tires. I do not recommend anyone without a truck or suv to attempt this driveway. It's not for the faint of heart. That is the only downside we found.

This is an excellent bed & breakfast in the middle of some beautiful countryside. The owners are extremely nice and very professionally run the place. There is a nice lodge along with some other cabins or cottages. The room was very comfortable with an easy to use fireplace. The breakfast is great and dinner on the weekend done nice by a professional chef. The driveway is a bit long, steep and windy but is manageable. They have all you need to relax but no TV or WiFi that we could detect. There is good cell coverage so be sure you have lots of data. We would definitely return in the future.

My wife and I took a ride down the Blue Ridge Parkway, and stayed at the Sugar Tree Inn on the way down. It's just off of mile 27 of the parkway. The road going to the Sugar Tree is slow and windy, but easy to drive on. Look for the Sugar Tree sign on the left. It's big, and hard to miss. The inn is like an old log cabin in the woods. It's bigger inside than it looks and there are a few buildings out back that also have rooms to stay. When we got there, we met Kevin who showed us around. It's an impressive cabin to say the least. Beautiful front porch to sit and watch the hummingbirds. There are really a lot of them! We arrived on a Wednesday night, and dinner is not available on those nights, but they do provide several things if you want them. We both had a bowl of soup and a roll. There was a small and reasonable price for the extras like soup. It was good enough to fill our stomachs and both soups tasted awesome. Also, there's a small fridge in the kitchen that has beer and wine, which you just take, and leave money on the honor system. Our room was beautiful - Tye River Room. It was quite large, had a wood burning fireplace and a huge comfortable king bed. There were several sitting areas, as well as a huge outside porch. It's very peaceful, so we both slept well. When morning came, we had a great breakfast prepared by the chef. The driveway is "as advertised", but we had no problems maneuvering it with our Lexus sedan. It's a little scary, but just take your time, and you're fine.

Idyllic. Peaceful. Fireflies. Quiet. Brenda and Kevin are great hosts. The whole family works together to create a special place. Wonderful meals. We will be back! We loved nearby Lexington and took a fun carriage ride. Natural Bridge State park nearby was also very cool!

We found Sugartree lodge by accident, looking for a place near Crabtree falls where we could see the spring wildflowers, and a dark place to see Lyrid meteors. What a find – its lovely. The lodge is in a hollow just off the Blue Ridge parkway. We came from Maryland on highway 81 (ugh) and then took route 11 to Vesuvias. From there, Tye highway winds into the national forest up towards the parkway, and Sugartree is off the highway, down a gravel drive into the hollow. There’s a lovely view down to the west, but otherwise the lodge is surrounded by forest, and very quiet and peaceful. There’s a level 2 EV charging station too. We stayed in one of the cabins. They all seem nice – our place was immaculate, with a comfortable bed and en suite bathroom. There was a big fireplace – we only needed it one night but it would be very nice in winter. Our hosts were super. Kind, welcoming, helpful with guidebooks, lovely breakfast. We wanted to stay more than the 3 nights we’d booked but had to get back to work. And there were meteors – it was really dark at night – and the wildflowers were amazing

Our cosy spacious room was in one of the chalets. There was an open fire already set which made for a cosy evening. Breakfast was fantastic and very filling. We also had a wonderful dinner on the Saturday night. The location is secluded but close to the Blue Ridge Park Way so there were lots of opportunities to explore the area.

We were surprised that no reviews mentioned the 1/2 mile "driveway". We fully expected this rustic beauty to be secluded, but after driving the twisty rural roads to get here, the narrow twisting drive in to the lodge made us really glad that they offered a slate of light options for dinner that didn't require us driving back out right away. Our room (Skyline) was just down from the lodge itself. When we let ourselves in, there was a slight smoky smell in the room. There is a working wood fireplace which explains the aroma; it was laid ready for us to enjoy a cozy fire, but we did not take advantage of that. The bed was comfy and the facilities were fine. My husband's celiac needs were handled beautifully at every breakfast. We had wished that the innkeepers had given us a heads-up about the ruckus that woke us repeatedly during the night: the oak and hickory trees were at that point in their season that they dropped nuts on our metal roof anytime there was a breath of air. It made quite a din!
