Stravithie Castle

If you want to have a Victorian type castle experience, this is the hotel for you. The owner will send you a notice once you’ve booked on line as to the directions to get to the castle. There is no sign at the road, so you have to look for the black gate at the white stone building. This charming castle hotel is loaded with history. The owner greeted us and gave us a mini tour of the living area. Very friendly and knowledgeable about the history of the castle. We booked the room with the king bed. It was actually an apartment complete with a sitting room (tv), kitchen and bathroom. The kitchen does not come with pots and pans, but you could probably arrange with the owner if you were staying longer. Coffee was provided along with a cold breakfast that was in the fridge (boiled eggs, ham, cheese, milk, orange juice). There were also some cereals, fruits and jams. Nicely done if you like a cold breakfast. Coffee as good. Each room came with its own electric heater so we were not cold. The bed was comfy. The shower water took a little while to heat up, but we did manage to take a shower (expect a trickle and not a blast of water). This was just fine as this is an old castle and our expectations were realistic - and we were forewarned by the owner. The internet was just fine and we were able to connect with family and friends in the evening whilst having a glass of wine and some cheese/veggies that we brought along. The grounds are fantastic and filled with wildlife (we saw some deer, badgers, etc). There is a small creek running behind the castle. An awesome experience and I would highly recommend booking for at least one night.

Very charming. Dave the owner was friendly and helpful when ever we had questions about the area. It is hard to find. Do not trust the GPS, follow the directions given by the owner. The rooms were very large and clean, comfortable. We had a bedroom, kitchen, and a bathroom. The owner filled the fridge with breakfast food, which was a nice touch. St. Andrews is only 10 minutes away. The dog Gyp, loves to fetch. Bring her a tennis ball if you stay. We highly recommend!!

Just spent 3 enjoyable nights at the Castle. Met by David who gave us some history of the castle. Lovely spacious room with kiichen which had fridge, toaster and kettle. Adequate continental breakfast. Setup gave flexibility. Beautiful gardens. Will definitely return in the future

Staying in Stavithie Castle was kind of like living in a fairytale! My husband and our daughter and son-in-law stayed here for only two nights (not long enough) during the St Andrew’s graduation time. We weren’t there for the graduation, and were so thankful to have a place that was a quiet retreat from the craziness in town. The rooms were very spacious and tastefully decorated. The beds were large and comfy. It was like an apartment with a kitchen and a lovely sitting room! The grounds were gorgeous and my daughter and I took a hike through the woods to the old church and the Druid carvings. David the owner was great, and gave us a tour through his beautiful castle on our arrival. We would definitely stay here again, only for a longer time!
