1. Sélectionné parmi les 100 meilleurs hôtels thermaux du Japon 2. Je suis allé au Japon plus de dix fois et j'ai séjourné dans des hôtels avec des prix allant de 1K à 3K. Cet hôtel est de loin le plus satisfaisant. Le personnel du service de l'hôtel sourit toujours et s'incline chaleureusement lorsqu'il marche devant vous. Service professionnel et chaleureux, super. 3. Je recommande vivement la chambre de plus de 50 mètres carrés pour un lit et deux repas. La chambre était propre, la vue était superbe et le dîner était très attentionné. J'ai baigné quatre fois dans des sources chaudes, presque toutes réservées. Beau paysage 4. J'aime le château de Matsumoto. Les vendeurs des magasins de la ville sont très enthousiastes. Il y avait très peu de monde. Il y avait encore beaucoup de monde à Osaka, Tokyo et Kyoto lorsque j'y suis allé auparavant, j'avais l'impression que notre famille et quelques étrangers étaient les seuls dans la rue. Il existe de nombreux châteaux de Matsumoto, Yayoi Kusama, boutiques, bijouteries en argent et boutiques d'artisanat. Reviens la prochaine fois

[Transports] Prenez le bus de la ligne Kuroyama-Tatebe et descendez à l'arrêt « Hyugayama Kogen ». L'hôtel se trouve juste en face. Vous pouvez également prendre un bus depuis cet arrêt jusqu'à la gare de « Shinano-Omachi ». Pensez à vérifier les horaires à l'avance ou à vous renseigner à la réception de l'hôtel. L'hôtel propose également une navette gratuite, mais le premier départ est à 10h45. [Bagages] Vous pouvez enregistrer vos bagages directement à la gare de Toyama. Le prix a augmenté ; en 2025, il était de 4 000 yens par bagage. [Environnement et chambres] J'ai eu une chambre double au deuxième étage. La chambre était spacieuse et confortable, avec un petit balcon et une vue sur la forêt. [Onsen] Il y a des bassins onsen intérieurs et extérieurs, mais ils ne sont pas très grands. L'onsen était idéal pour se détendre après les randonnées en montagne. [Petit-déjeuner] Il y avait du porridge, des onigiri, des brioches aux légumes de style Shinshu et d'autres mets classiques, comme des fruits et du pain. [Adaptateur] Cet hôtel ne disposait pas d'adaptateur pour prise à trois broches vers prise à deux broches ; d'autres hôtels que j'ai visités au Japon en étaient équipés.

L'hôtel est agréable, à environ 10 minutes à pied de la gare, presque en ligne droite. La chambre initialement prévue était la mauvaise : elle était réservée aux fumeurs. Bien que non-fumeurs, on nous a attribué la chambre appropriée, mais l'odeur y était désagréable, même pour ceux qui ne fument pas du tout. Elle commençait déjà au sol. Heureusement, le personnel a pu nous trouver une autre chambre non-fumeur. Certes, elle était plus petite, avec un grand lit au lieu de deux, mais elle offrait une vue imprenable sur la montagne et était équipée d'une machine à café. Le petit-déjeuner de l'hôtel est excellent : une cuisine japonaise variée avec un grand choix de boissons, dont des jus de fruits frais, et de nombreux desserts. Chambre non-fumeur, certes plus petite, avec un grand lit au lieu de deux, mais offrant une vue imprenable sur la montagne et une machine à café.

Le logement était d'une propreté impeccable et le propriétaire d'une gentillesse exceptionnelle. Bien qu'il s'agisse d'un matelas au sol, il était plus confortable que prévu et les couvertures étaient bien chaudes. Il y a également un onsen (bain thermal). J'y suis allée le soir et il n'y avait personne – un vrai moment de détente ! Le gel douche, le savon et le shampoing étaient excellents ; ma peau était bien hydratée et mes cheveux doux et soyeux. J'ai adoré ! La salle de bain, avec douche et toilettes séparées et toutes les commodités, offre un confort optimal grâce à une pression d'eau chaude et froide constante. Le parking est spacieux, la vue depuis le logement est agréable et la gare routière de Sawando est à seulement 5 minutes à pied. J'y retournerai sans hésiter.

From the moment you enter Kokuya Ryokan, be prepared to leave the real world behind and fully immerse yourself in the experience. You swap your shoes for slippers at the door and don’t see them again until you leave. You will receive a warm welcome from polite and gentle-mannered staff, get taken up to your beautiful room, and once you’ve changed into your traditional yukata, it’s time to let the relaxation begin. The multi-course dinner will probably be one of the best meals you’ve had in your life, with many unusual textures and flavors to try. The futons are comfortable, and your room is kept toasty warm. There are even skincare products to keep you pampered and moisturized between soaks in the onsen. Honestly, you won’t even need to open your suitcase while you’re there. The staff will take you through all the logistics when you arrive, but there are some things that might be useful to know in advance. - The ryokan sends a shuttle to Yudanaka station at about 15:00 to collect new arrivals, so time your journey to take advantage of this benefit. - The ryokan also offers guests the opportunity to catch a shuttle to the Snow Monkey Park immediately after breakfast the next morning. - After you leave the ryokan, they will take your luggage down to the coffee shop opposite the station, so you don’t need to worry about those logistics. - Trains from Yudanaka back to Nagano leave at 12:30 and 15:30. - The ryokan itself has several private onsens that you can reserve for a 45-minute slot. Because the onsens are on the property, you can go in with your partner or travel companions regardless of gender. It’s a boutique hotel, so you don’t have to worry about not getting access to all the onsens you want. - The ryokan is on the main road of the Shibu Onsen town. The hotel will give you a key so you can wonder down the main road, visiting any of the public onsens you wish - however, with so many gorgeous and more private onsens in the hotel itself, you probably won’t have time or the desire for this. - Also, there is a coffee machine in the room! (I was worried about having to survive without coffee, and this turned out to be an unfounded concern). We had an incredible and totally indulgent time at Kokuya. Experiencing a traditional ryokan is a privilege that you should try at least once if you can. And adding the Snow Monkeys in give the trip a double purpose, making it that much more memorable. The only thing that would have made the trip better is if we had been allowed to linger longer over every course of our dinner.

L'emplacement et le personnel sympathique sont excellents. La propreté est également appréciable. Cependant, la chambre était trop petite et la climatisation aurait besoin d'être améliorée, d'autant plus qu'elle soufflait directement sur le lit. Le petit-déjeuner était délicieux, mais le menu n'a pas changé du tout pendant mon séjour de trois nuits et quatre jours ; je n'en ai donc presque pas mangé après le troisième jour.

I like the overall vibe of this hotel, it was new and modern. Room was spacious and clean, but considering the price it is expected. There are no complimentary drinks or snacks provided to guests, everything provided in the room was labeled with a price. Lacking some personal touch and very commercialised.

La chambre était un peu vieillotte mais impeccable. Dommage qu'il n'y ait eu que des chambres fumeurs pendant mon séjour, car l'odeur de cigarette était présente, mais le personnel a eu la gentillesse de me fournir un désodorisant. Le petit-déjeuner était délicieux et très varié ; j'ai été très impressionné. Il y a un parking juste à côté de l'hôtel. Le prix était de 750 yens par nuit.

I stayed at this hotel with my wife and two children during a two-night trip to Karuizawa in early February. The hotel is around 100 years old and its claim to fame is that John Lennon has stayed there. The piano that he played on is still in the bar. Location: The hotel is near Old Ginza Street and around a 15-minutes drive from Karuizawa station. It was not difficult to find, but you must navigate a narrow approach to the hotel which is icy at this time of the year, so you must drive carefully. Cleaniness: The staff told me that the hotel was only recently and everything was very clean and in good condition. Service: The receptionist that conducted the check-in was probably the Japanese that spoke the best English that I had encountered on this trip. He spent a lot of time explaining the hotel to our family. The porter was also very helpful and polite. When we asked for extra toothbrushes and slippers for the children, housekeeping was very prompt in delivering them and even brought some children's robes for my sons. Facilities: The hotel did not have many facilities. There is a small shop, a bar and a french restaurant but not much else. Some rooms had private hot springs in them and they gave us the opportunity to upgrade. Our room, had a small balcony even though we were on the ground floor. It looked onto a wooded area so there was not much to see, especially at night. However, when it snowed the next morning, my kids loved going out and playing in the snow. I was particularly impressed by the breakfast. It was a simple American breakfast very well presented. It was very pleasurable to look out into the inner courtyard with it was snowing. Overall: I like this hotel as it has a lot of character. It is architecturally attractive and has kept a lot of its charm despite renovation. The staff are very professional and polite. I would stay in this hotel again.

I’ve stayed at many ryokans throughout my travels—often making up half of each trip—but this one felt a bit different. It seemed to be run by just one person, who I assume is the owner. Everything was self-service, which might be understandable considering it was the most affordable option among the ryokans in the area. Most amenities required an extra fee, such as towels. Payment was made by dropping coins into a basket and making your own change, which wasn’t very convenient—especially since I didn’t carry much cash. One thing I appreciated was the luggage delivery service. I was able to leave my bag at the lobby before check-out and have it sent to Toyama Station (for about 4,000 JPY, cash only). What stood out was the creativity in the shared spaces. There were several common rooms designed for relaxing and spending time—perfect if you’re traveling with friends. You could play ping pong, read books, watch TV, or use the canteen, which had a microwave and dishes available. They even had coin-operated massage chairs and a small fitness room. However, I must mention two important downsides: 1. Limited nearby dining options – Many restaurants shown as open on Google Maps were actually closed. The only one that was open had extremely slow service—I waited nearly an hour for dinner. 2. Insects—large ones – Unfortunately, I encountered big insects in my room, which made it hard to sleep. (He even provided insect-catch tape for me while introduce the room) I stayed awake most of the night, worrying it might come back—especially stressful since I had to get up early the next morning to catch a bus to Ogizawa. Minds you, stairs only, need to carry your luggage down by yourself. Overall, while it offers good value for the area and has unique communal features, this ryokan may not suit travelers who prefer full service, cashless payment, or guaranteed comfort.
