Room & vibes Stayed in a traditional tatami room and it was so Japanese in the best way – futon, tatami smell, the whole ryokan fantasy. Super cosy, perfect if you’re here to soak, chill, and live your best onsen‑town main‑character life. Buildings & facilities Hotel has three blocks, all connected via the main building, so you’ll always pass through it anyway. Most of the good stuff – hot springs, buffet etc. – is in the Annex building where I stayed, so it was really convenient, just no Yubatake view (that’s only for the main building rooms). Location & mini shopping zone They literally have their own shopping area on the first floor of the main building, right by Yubatake and the hot spring street, so you can roll out of the hotel in yukata and start browsing. Super easy to snack, shop, then hop back into the onsen without feeling like you “went out”. Transport & walking in snow There’s a shuttle bus to the nearest public transport stop, so luggage days are easy. You can walk it in under 10 minutes, but in snow season the road gets icy and crazy slippery, so honestly not recommended unless you trust your shoes (and your balance). Staff & service energy Hotel staff are amazing – super friendly and actually proactive. Besides Japanese and English, some staff speak Mandarin and will just switch to it to help you out, and they’ll even offer to take photos for you before you have the chance to ask, which is perfect for solo or shy travellers.

C'était notre deuxième voyage à Kusatsu, et nous avons choisi de séjourner deux nuits à l'hôtel Boun. Le petit-déjeuner et le dîner étaient excellents, et le service de l'hôtel a maintenu le niveau élevé habituel des ryokans onsen : attentionné et confortable. Cette fois, j'ai essayé le massage japonais de l'hôtel, et la technique était parfaite, je le recommande ! Kusatsu mérite vraiment sa réputation de meilleure destination thermale, avec le Yubatake enveloppé d'une brume féerique, le Nishinokawara où l'eau de la source jaillit à flots, et le domaine skiable de Kusatsu qui propose de nombreuses activités. J'attends avec impatience notre prochaine visite.

Upon our arrival, we're greeted with great staff members, who take our shoes and away and provide us slippers to wear during our entire stay. The dinner was exquisitely served as a big course composed of various several side dishes and main items. We were just blown away. So we came back to the room after dinner to find out that the futon beds, Japanese style mattress & beds, were set up for us to relax and sleep. The breakfast is just a bit less sophisticated but still much more than we could eat, yet impressive for us in terms of the effort required to make them. Same with upon our departure, our shoes are placed back at the lobby orientated readily for us to wear. It just shows Japanese highly attentive level of detail in terms of hospitality. Although the location is its downside, even if you don't have a rental car, I still highly recommend it if you can find a way there.

May not come again. The hotel rate is considered pricey because the service did not meet that price standard. We booked a private onsen and found out there is limit number of times you can use onsen. In fact, only 1 person used once at night and in the morning. When we used in the morning, the water is as low as below knee height. After calling the front desk several times, there is still no onsen water. Food is simple, like those we can find in local food restaurant.

The hotel is very popular among the Japanese traveller. Lots of Japanese with very limited foreign traveller. The communication can be a bit difficult at the hotel. The room were cleaned but there is limitation of daily cleaning of the room. They only take trash out and change towels. The policy is to clean the room every 4 days. When the hotel is fully occupied, there is a problem with the scarcity of hot water. We have to wait for hot water to be reproducing 2 out of 3 nights we stayed. The buffet is very crowded and the food are pretty much the same for all 3 nights we stayed for both breakfast and dinner. Our highlights are the crab and the beef station for dinner and the live onigiri station for breakfast.

Choisissez de dormir à Maebashi, pas déçu pour ceux qui louent une voiture pour visiter minakami parce que l'hébergement est magnifique. L'hôtel est bon dans le style Dormy Inn, il y a gratuit brames de nuit tard, bon petit déjeuner, logement propre, bons onsen, conduire au centre commercial Aeon pas loin, plus une très grande branche.

Zur Info: wir waren gleich nach der Wiederröffnung im Juni im Hotel. Manche Sachen waren sicherlich noch nicht ganz fertig, könnten sich also ändern. Der Check-In verlief an Tablets relativ schnell, wenn man davor Online Registriert hat. Es gibt zwar eine Rezeption, leider versteckt sich das Personal meistens hinter einem Vorhang, der diese umgibt. Das Englischniveau war elementar. Die Zimmer selbst waren angenehm, besonders hervorzuheben ist die große Zimmergröße. Es war alles sehr sauber. Auch die Ausstattung mit Smart TV, Zahnbürste und Shampoo auch super. Das einzig leicht Negative ist das kleine Badezimmer, welches im Vergleich zum Zimmer ziemlich klein und älter eingerichtet (aber trotzdem sauber) ist. Mit dem japanischen Frühstück konnten wir nicht sehr viel anfangen, da es uns nicht so schmeckte. Davon abgesehen war die Auswahl leider stark begrenzt, es gab leider nur das, was auf dem Bild zu sehen ist, was enttäuschend war. Das Onsenerlebniss im Hotel war für uns auch sehr spannend. Im Frauen- und Männeronsen gab es jeweils ein simples Innen- und Ausbecken, welche beide sehr schön waren. Es gibt einen kleinen Chillbereich mit kostenlosem Getränkeautomat. Ebenso gibt es eine Sauna, die leider nur vormittags für Frauen zugänglich ist und Nachmittags an den Männeronsen angeschlossen war. Fazit: Es war insgesamt ein angenehmer Hotelaufenthalt, besondern wenn man viel Zeit im Zimmer verbingt und gerne Onsen mag. Abstriche muss man jedoch beim Frühstück und zum Teilen beim Service machen. Wir haben es für 33€ pro Nacht bekommen womit es ein gutes Preis-Leistungsverhältnis war.

3 different types of onsen , amazing breakfast with huge selection of food, amazing spacious rooms with an amazing view of the river. Only spent 1 night here but would’ve easily stayed another if we had time. The building is well maintained and the onsen was so good I had 3 sessions even though we were only here for 1 night. Kinchoro is the more exclusive wing of Fuikuichi. The rooms come sight private onsen and it’s similar to most 10 tatami rooms. The service from the staff is good. They are almost invisible when you don’t need them but will magically appear when you need help, during meal times and check in/out time. The food unfortunately seem to be so so only. I didn’t find it spectacular, and in fact fringing on being a bit too inventive. Otherwise, all okay.
