I was on a planned not inexpensive trip to see what Greenland had to offer for the holiday maker and while the Hotels in Nuuk and llulssat came out on the pretty good side the Polar lodge was an old mission hut a few yards from the main International airport at Kangerlussuaq and having walked the dusty and broken trail to the reception which on arrival was greeted with name sign yr in room 4 I arrived at my Euro 145 room - no TV ,no bathroom and two single beds that had seen better days - in short I was in shock - I had to stay no where else around but if this is what high end tourist s are being offered then the tourist board needs to think again - thank god it was only one night - but I noticed that the management also wants y to do some housekeeping before y check out by 0900 - all the hotels want y out by 10am - what is it with them ? They indeed have a lot to learn - I for one won’t be back - expensive and in general poor quality- yes the scenery is wonderful but so is Iceland and while just as expensive they are miles ahead Sorry Greenland y were in General a disappointment

This is a good strategic location, just left to the airport exit door. You don't need any map neither, their sign just could be seen. The room was small but very nice and functional. No complains about the heating or lights. I really liked the view from the room. The bed was comfortable too and due to the silence around had a long and good sleep. The wifi was much better than expected, easy to access. The staff was not about to chif-chat, true (I refer to the previous comment below), but they are a few people and can be overwhelmed. Anyways they were very helpful when I asked, also allowed to stay until needed, despite the check out is truly too early. Probably that has to be adjusted with the possibility to 12AM, and the check-ins pushed to 1PM. The water was hot enough in the shower, as well the breakfast was also enough for the needs, for sure enough not to starve after that. If I compare with the hostel in Longyearbyen, this looks to have some advantage, at least by some aspects. So I just can recommend it to others

We booked this place in February for two nights in June. I did also wanted to book the two nights a week later on the journey back but it was already sold out so we ended up in Old Town. We did get a room in the same building as the reception, but only to be reached from the outside. The hostel was clean and nothing was broken. The room was not large but good enough. The window could be opened and was protected by a mosquito net. The free wifi was good (with no malfuctions at all) in our room and in the canteen. We could choose between two bathrooms/toilets in our part of the building. They were not occupied when needed. There were some mosquito's in one of the bathrooms. The kitchen, next to the reception, was very complete, including cooking equipment, magnetron, crockery and even a dishwasher. We did prepare a meal our self in the kitchen. The breakfast was just ok. Strange thing was that on the second day we sent away because they wanted to vacuum the canteen. The room did cost 144 euro a night. But everything in Greenland is expensive, so it is hard to say if this is too much or not. The supermarket was just a short walk away, just like the airport and the 'bus station'. There was only one bus going too Old Camp and the small town on the other side of the airport *****. Only during day time, not in the evening and limited in the weekend. Note that everything was closed on 21th of June, except the restaurant in the airport building (and the restaurant in the hotel I guess). The airport restaurant was the best option for lunch and dinner. The reception has limited service times but this was not a problem. The reception did sell some souvenirs. Two shops close to the airport and one inside did also sell (expensive) souvenirs. Both, Polar Lodge and Old Camp are managed by Albatros. This company also offer several tours. We did the Ice Cap Point 660 tour and a week later the terrific tour to the same location, but with a walk of 4 hours on the ice. This plan did work out well, because the first time we did get snow on the ice cap and the second time sun. Beside the tours, nothing interesting can be done around the lodge. There are no nice short hikes directly in the neighborhood. In my opinion; Polar Lodge is highly recommended above Old Camp!

Fantastic location, nearby airport. To be honest, we booked here when during my research, I was advise there were only two places in Kangerlussuaq to stay...here and another place further from the airport. However, upon arriving to Kangerlussuaq, I saw that this was not the case, there are other options, but Polar Lodge was still a comfortable stay, very basic but surprisingly offers fantastic nights sleep in basic rooms, basic beds. Super fast heating radiators if you need. The carpet does smell in the rooms and the toilet and shower rooms also smell a bit, but in and out is the way! The other guests and staff here weren't the friendliest people we've encountered though. The staff were always miserable and never greeted you when you greeted them, is is why it is only 3 stars not 4. The human element to a place you're staying also matters. The breakfast finishes at 9am, not sure when it starts, but it is so basic you could skip it, bread, cheese and some cereal with tea or coffee. Not good if you're vegan or lactose intolerant. There is no restaurant here, but because it is so close to the airport, you could pop over there for food and drinks or the supermarket which is also nearby. Free wifi, which worked well.

The Polar Lodge does exactly what it needs to do! The rooms are basic and clean, beds are comfortable, and the bathrooms functional. The wifi works and the common areas are well equipped and function as they should,. Why then the 5 star review - Because of the people. I have stayed at Polar Lodge twice and all my expectations in regards to helpfulness have been surpassed both times. In the face of delays and potential difficulties, the staff at Polar Lodge have helped us out and ensured that our challenges were minimized and enabled us to be productive with our time. Having good people around makes everything easier - and there are good people at Polar Lodge.

We stayed for one night on 8/19/2022 in room number 10. We came around 9pm so reception wasn't working anymore but we found the room key. Unfortunately, it was already dark and the lighting could not be turned on in the room. There was also no electricity from an electrical outlet. The only contact for service was the phone number left on the closed reception door. Unfortunately, not registered in whatsapp, which (for me) in practice means no contact - a roaming connection from the Polish mobile network is a serious cost. I only wrote an email via ********** chat - I haven't received any reply until now. We survived in the dark without being able to recharge our batteries. In the morning I went to the reception desk to pay and we complained about it. The lady at the reception said that there is actually no electricity in several rooms (!) And this probably also applies to room 10. I asked for a price reduction, the lady called somewhere and replied that the price reduction was not possible - I could call the phone number provided on the closed reception door the fault would be removed. Apart from the cost of the phone call, I am curious why there was no electricity in several rooms. Avoid this place.

Rather underwhelmed with this stay. Limited services with reception closing by 6pm. Our key was left taped to a door. Check-out time was 9am, very early. The hotel seems self-service. ‘Take the sheets off the bed and place them outside your room.’ ‘Put your dishes and silverware in the dishwasher.’ Breakfast was three types of cereal, bread without a toaster and a block of cheese. Zero protein and only available 7:30-9a. The room was old and dirty. No smoke detector, screen was torn and taped together, and dirty stains on the carpet. A youth hostel at best, not designed for adults. Free WiFi and a decent sized souvenir shop with t shirts, post cards, etc.
