SStellakwansyStaying at this hotel in Zermatt was an unforgettable experience! The location is perfect—just 500 meters from the train station, making it incredibly convenient. The highlight of my stay was the warm hospitality from the owners, Thor and Michele. They personally served the buffet breakfast every morning, which was both delicious and thoughtfully prepared. On my first day, I unfortunately missed breakfast, but as I was heading out around 10:45 am, they surprised me by reserving some food for me to enjoy before leaving. It was such a thoughtful and touching gesture that truly made me feel cared for.
The room itself was immaculate and had everything I needed. The balcony offered a stunning mountain view, which was a perfect way to start and end each day. Thor and Michele went above and beyond to make me feel like a VIP throughout my stay. They remembered my name, attended to every need, and even took the time to explain the local attractions and recommend food options based on my preferences.
I feel incredibly lucky to have secured two nights at this gem of a hotel, especially since it’s almost always fully booked. This was one of the most personal and heartwarming stays I’ve ever had. If you’re visiting Zermatt, staying here is an absolute must. Thank you, Thor and Michele, for making my trip so memorable!

IIzzaPizzaThoroughly enjoyed our stay at this hotel! The excellent service rendered by the staff made our honeymoon much sweeter. Everyone was friendly, kind and always willing to help. Room was really nice and the extra sauna and open concept bathtub was a nice surprise! Breakfast spread was super delicious as well. Facilities like the wellness area include foot bath, infrared chairs, jacuzzi etc.

GGuest UserUn hôtel tout à fait unique, la maison en bois est à la décoration très chaleureuse, le petit déjeuner est bon et on peut voir les montagnes enneigées depuis le balcon. L'hôtel dispose d'une voiture à batterie qui se rend à la gare, qui peut emmener les personnes et les bagages à l'hôtel. Il suffit de nous contacter à l'avance pour prendre rendez-vous. Cela vaut la peine de rester ici la prochaine fois que vous viendrez à Zermatt.

IInvitéPropre et bien rangé, le petit-déjeuner est très copieux et délicieux, vous pouvez surtout presser votre propre jus. Des chemises de nuit et des chaussons jetables sont fournis. Il y a des vélos à louer.

IInvitéL'hôtel est très confortable tant à l'intérieur qu'à l'extérieur, la chambre est grande et la vue est super belle. La nourriture du matin est de bonne qualité et la piscine est très confortable. Les adultes comme les enfants aiment cet hôtel.

Nestled high above Zermatt, the Riffelhaus 1853 is accessible via the Gornergrat railway, making the journey itself an adventure. Once you arrive, you’re greeted by panoramic mountain views in every direction, with the iconic Matterhorn standing proudly in front of you. The setting is perfect for ski-in/ski-out access in winter and stunning hiking trails in summer.
Rooms – 9/10
The rooms are cozy, modern, and well-equipped while still maintaining a classic Swiss alpine charm. Many rooms come with Matterhorn views, and waking up to this scenery is an experience in itself. The beds are comfortable, and the rustic wooden decor gives a warm, welcoming feel. Some rooms have balconies, which I highly recommend booking for the full experience.
Service – 9/10
The staff is friendly, professional, and attentive. Despite the hotel’s remote location, the service is top-notch, with staff going out of their way to accommodate special requests. From seamless check-in to helpful local recommendations, they make the stay even more special.
Dining – 8.5/10
The on-site restaurant serves delicious Swiss cuisine, including traditional dishes like fondue and rösti. The breakfast is generous, featuring fresh bread, cheeses, meats, and eggs cooked to order. The only downside is that, due to the remote location, dining options are limited to the hotel restaurant, but the quality makes up for it.
Wellness & Spa – 10/10
The outdoor hot tub with a view of the Matterhorn is an absolute highlight! There’s also a sauna and steam bath, perfect after a day of skiing or hiking. Soaking in the warm water while surrounded by snow-capped peaks is an experience worth every penny.
Activities – 10/10
Winter: Perfect for skiing, as the hotel is directly on the slopes. The ski room is convenient, and the access to the Gornergrat ski area is unbeatable.
Summer: Incredible hiking trails with direct access to the Gornergratbahn for easy excursions to higher altitudes.

SsandyhowOverall a pretty okay stay if you are not fussy. 10 minutes walk from Zermatt station, easy to access. Fret not if you are staying in the higher floors, there’s an elevator. The staffs are friendly and helpful. Path is well lit at night. Bed and toilet are clean, the floor is abit dusty but not a big issue for me :)
PS, this hotel is nit allowed to use our own hair dryer due to voltage, hair dryer is provided by the hotel. No using of heating / cooking too.

IInvitéVery good view right in the hostel room. I like that it's not bunker bed, there's also a small and short partition between beds which is good. Breakfast is yummy, kitchen staff asked for feedback, shows that they care. Friendly and helpful front desk staff. Only complaint is the shower which needs to be pressed consistently to get the water flowing. Another thing to note is that it's an effort going up the slope to the hostel and then up the stairs to your dorm room.
