My review is a negative because of additional service charges on absolutely every transaction, this was an audacity from the point that we were fetching our own drinks from the bar, it wasn't table service. Expensive drinks. Carling at £5.50 per pint and then the hotel 10% on top. So every round of drinks bought carried another 10% for no-one doing anything more basic than serving behind a bar.. To add insult to this injury the hotel goes on to add extra service gratuity for the staff when you check out!!! I would direct you to these extras of which nothing was mentioned in my confirmation booking email. I have included the view from Room 11, depicted as a superior room. The extractor fan and rooftop. The noise from the extractor fan started from 6:30 AM on all the 3 mornings we were there and whilst it stopped at 7 pm on our first night was still whirring away at 22.30pm on the second. Before unpacking our suitcases I had returned to reception to raise my concern. I assumed that the person who I was talking to was either the hotel manager or the establishment owner. She had little or no interest in me as a guest with her response to absolve the hotel because it was being renovated. Well an extraction fan and a roof are permanent fixtures and were outside the window of Room 11. Her reply was no better regarding Room 12 where my brother had checked into. His bill came to over £600 for the 3 nights and his view was of a dormer window not more than 3 foot opposite that had bright blue tarpaulin flapping around it, the same rooftops and scaffolding. Not a green tree or blade of grass in sight. This was supposed to be an executive suite. He complained that there was a constant humming sound throughout the night. Sundries, 3 sample size of the basic bath, shampoo, conditioner but these were not replenished after day one. The hand soap in the dispenser wouldn't foam up which left us wondering whether it was watered down. The beds were made but our bathroom was not cleaned on day 2. No biscuits, but tea, coffee, sugar and milk. Was it clean, to be fair it was, spotlessly. Did the general staff work hard. To be fair one's we saw did, yes, but were always managing on their own. Ample parking, yes, that wasn't an issue. Was breakfast good, to be fair, yes, the bacon was very tasty as was the black pudding. Did we eat in the restaurant, no because I have no problem with rewarding good service but I felt this hotel management exploited every opportunity to add service charges and that spoilt our stay and is my biggest grumble.

Absolutely fabulous time. Firstly they honoured our classic lodges vouchers. Staff friendly, room lovely. Very clean quiet and comfy bed. Food for the evening meal was one of best we’ve had for a long while. Breakfast extremely tasty. We understand it’s going to be an events premises and not so much hotel. Good luck - but I’m sure you will succeed. Thanks for a great stay .

Some poor customer service and in the middle of a major refurbishment. NEGATIVES, poor signage and lighting for reception Shower was spraying all over due to leak and wet towels were not collected from Bath. Main lamp didn't work in room plus ripped wallpaper on wall.High cost of drinks in Bar 12.95 glass of wine. No cooked breakfast on second day , only £5.25 reduction given and no explanation to begin with. Lots of noise caused by workmen and their vans blocking the restaurant windows. Positives, nice views from room and decent food when they had a chef in attendance. Don't expect fair treatment if anything goes wrong. My advice , give it a year and it might be OK

This hotel is beautiful, the views that it overlooks are breathtaking. On arriving the receptionist was warm and welcoming with a lovely smiling face, she was very informative and let us know where our afternoon tea, dinner and breakfast would be served. When we arrived at our room (1) we were greeted with a grand room with a four poster bed, wardrobe, full length mirror, dressing table, sofa, TV, coffee table (with some informative magazines of things to do in the area) a small kettle with tea, coffee, sugar, biscuits and hot chocolate. There was also 2 bottles of Harrogate spring water. The en-suite was a lovely size, full size bath with large shower head and modernly tiled throughout. Pros: Beautiful Georgian building. Welcoming staff. Large airy room with 2 large windows. Comfortable bed, nice firm mattress. The bath was run quicker than ours at home! Large gardens. Plenty of outside seating if it's nice. Dog friendly (dogs are only allowed in certain areas and off limits in the restaurant which was a good call). Food was very nice, cooked and presented very well and served on hot plates. The woodland walk was a nice touch including a summerhouse with a couple of garden chairs to take in the view. Extensive wine menu. Cons: One of the sash windows in the room had a broken cord so there was a piece of wood to prop it open- these things happen but it was like that when we had the same room in 2016. Also the wooden shutters were all painted shut apart from one, which when we opened it was full of insects hidden behind it. With such bright lights outside it would be amazing to have such lovely features working. Please fit the square toilet with a square seat, the oval really didnt sit well. With such a reputable hotel you would expect some nice complinetary toiletries instead of the one soap does all fixed to the wall in the en-suite ( not good for us ladies with long hair). Afternoon tea was lovely. However, i had to go and find someone to request our prosecco as the young staff who were serving weren't very attentive and had forgotten it for all diners it seemed. The summer house on the woodland walk needs some attention as it's looking a little dated and not too inviting. The hedges in the grounds could do with lowering slightly to be able to take in the fantastic views. It would be good if there was more choice of ales. There is only lager, ipa or cider which is very disappointing for anyone (like my husband) who drinks guinness (when enquiring we were told guinness was popular but had been taken off for reasons unknown to staff) Amber ales (the doomebar garden umbrellas made hubby hopefull) or stout. With black sheep brewery and theakstons so close its a shame they're not stocked at the hotel. There are cobwebs and dead flies at the top of the doors in the garden room....just look up. Also under the sofas in the garden room could do with a sweep. All in all this was a lovely stay and in no way do I want to put anyone off with my cons

Excellent one night stay at Solberge Hall. This was our second visit and again it was punctuated with good food, really beautiful room (room 4 Robson in which we've stayed before) , lovely ambience, staff friendly, polite and efficient, nothing too much trouble. Highly recommend.

We stayed here some time ago but it has new owners now so we thought a revisit for lunch was called for. Upon entering its still a little dated but apparently everywhere will be renovated. We were shown to the bar area for a drink first, only bottled beer at the moment but lager on draught When lunch was ready we were shown to the restaurant and was took back by the quality of all the décor but most of all table cloths! which we have always liked. Quite a rarity these days. Not forgetting the copper coloured cutlery. We had a excellent lunch, fish and chips for me and fishcake for my wife who described it as the best she has ever had. All home made by a very capable chef. We paid the bill without seeing it but thought it a bit steep. I later telephoned to ask for a itemised breakdown, food was reasonably priced, however the wine is very expensive @ £10.95 for a large white and £13.95 for a large merlot which I was shocked at. Then there's a automatic service charge of 10%, which makes the merlot £15.34 WOW. To also add it was nothing special. Overall we enjoyed it and when all renovation work is completed, and in the summer it will be very nice. Will try it again but will enquire about wine prices before buying.

The hotel staff were polite and friendly. The food was incredible. The rooms need modernising, however they were clean and well equipped. Our tv didn’t work and after asking twice, this wasn’t resolved. It was very quiet but we liked that. Drinks are very expensive. We had a nice stay but won’t go back. Our view was awful.

We travelled down from Scotland and was staying one night with our 3 rescue dogs, and meeting up with our family (who live in the area) for a meal, at the hotel. We were given the menu prior to arrival, as we were a big party the whole team were so helpful. The hotel and staff were fantastic they set up a beautiful table in the lounge area so that the dogs could come in…the attention to detail was amazing. The fire was light it felt very personal, my family were so impressed and the food and service was very good, it was a guy and girl …sadly I forgot the names … The following morning at breakfast they set up our breakfast in the lounge so that we could bring our dogs with us to breakfast ( obviously no dogs allowed in the main dining room) . The rooms were clean and big couldn’t fault them. The grounds are magnificent. We would like to book again for this year, however the team said that it’s going to be an exclusive wedding venue, shame .
