Friars Bay Inn & Cottages

As mobility-challenged older adults we've come to take for granted common amenities afforded by the Americans with Disabilities Act. Had no idea until arriving at this property that we'd need to leave our car in a parking lot near the road and carry everything up a series of paving stone steps which had sharp edges and no handrails. It was either that, or try it on the adjoining steep and slippery grass. No ramps, handrails, or parking near your room. The bathroom door was very narrow and had no grab bars inside. Directions for the TV were clear as mud. Finally got access using the opposite remote they said would work. The room was clean, nice linens and beds. But a very stressful, painful set-up for people with mobility issues.

We stayed in Waterside Room B. The view from the waterside rooms is nothing short of wonderful; you are basically right on the water. Ideally, two of the same families/friends should book both the A and B rooms. Soundproofing between these two rooms is not great (we heard our neighbors with a small child pretty well, and I'm sure they heard us), and the awesome waterfront deck is shared, as in it being the exact same deck with no separation between rooms. However, if the owner's cottage next to the B room is not occupied, the B room occupants can use their deck (it wasn't occupied when we were there, so we had our own deck anyway). Other than that, this is a great place to stay. The kind staff was very helpful when I called a few times to change my dates. Decor in the room is very attractive and stylish, along with a nice bathroom with a roomy stand up shower (but please, upgrade the towels and throw away the paper thin ones you have now). They also, I think, recently added a great A/C system.

Wonderful place, great rooms, very peaceful and relaxing. I left my laptop charger in the room and the brilliant staff even mailed it back to my home. They went above and beyond and it was very much appreciated. Thoroughly recommended!

Room was ready on arrival and the lady in the front office was super Friendly! The room was clean and adorable. You can see the ocean from your room. It's a small space but perfect for 2 people. Beach is across the street so we walked there a lot. I would highly recommend this little piece of heaven to anyone visiting campobello Island! It was perfect!

We spent a lovely night at Friars Bay in a cottage directly on the beach with a private deck. The queen beds were very comfortable and the kitchenette and bath were well-equipped. All the staff we interacted with were so friendly and easygoing. A real gem.

We have never stayed quite so close to the water before with a wide and unobstructed view of the bay. Our waterfront cottage was ideally located to enjoy the changing light and feel g banks too. The deck was set with comfy wicker furniture and gorgeous pink hydrangeas. The beds were comfortable, everything was spotless and in the kitchenette there was even a hand crocheted dishrag? Jesse and the other woman were kind and helpful, clearly interested that you enjoy the place they take such good care of.

Nice people, nice place. very attentive staff. Jessie was great. Super convenient for what we did, golf and FDR’s summer residence. 5k from Lubec Maine. We came in by ferry from Deer Island for the full maritime experience. This added to our Campobello experience

We have been going there for years but missed the past three because of Covid...many upgrades since we were there last. Jesse and Anna are awesome. Room was super clean, the room had recently been painted and everything seems fresh and new. I do agree with the dairyboys review that you can hear people in the next room but it's a small price to pay for the view.

We had a thoroughly enjoyable 2 night's stay in a cottage. It was the main cottage (?) the one that sits by itself on the little hill. Spectacular views of the bay. The lady at check-in was just as sweet as could be. (We did however ask her to change payment from one card to another, and it was no problem. Only to discover on check out that the payment was put through on the card we didn't want it on.) The bathroom needs blinds on the window in the shower. I know the window is glazed, but still, it is uncomfortable. Also, the shower needs a grab bar. It's just silly not to have one installed. And while the kitchen is well stocked with plenty of pots and pans, you need more plates, cups, glasses, bowls, and utensils. Simply not near enough of those items. The washer and dryer (free to use!!) were an absolute godsend. A wonderful place to stay and relax.
