A nostalgic drive in Kolkata

Kolkata has a unique charm, and for someone like me—who grew up here but moved away in my early teens—coming back always feels special. The city’s energy, its timeless elegance, and its unmistakable character make every visit a mix of nostalgia and rediscovery. One of the highlights of my time here was a night drive to Victoria Memorial. The monument, glowing under the night sky, stood in all its grandeur—a sight that never gets old. The calm, the beauty, and the history it carries make it one of the most rock-solid symbols of Kolkata’s heritage. And then, of course, there’s the food. No trip is complete without a stop at Balwant Singh Da Dhaba. Their legendary jalebi with rabdi—a crispy, golden dessert soaked in thick, creamy sweetness—is pure indulgence. It’s these little things that make Kolkata what it is: rich in history, full of flavors, and always welcoming. Being back, reliving these moments, and experiencing the city’s best offerings made me appreciate Kolkata even more. Whether it’s the grand Victoria Memorial or the simplicity of late-night street food, this city has a way of making every moment memorable.
