3/5 – A Time Capsule Stay in the Heart of Osu I stayed at Paintsiwa Wangara Apartments from Wednesday 12 November to Monday 17 November, right in the lively Osu area of Accra—close to great food spots, Republic Bar, street markets, and everything you’d want if you’re exploring the city for the first time. The location alone earns major points. The Vibe: Early-2000s Nostalgia Trip The apartments feel like they were built in the early 2000s… and then politely left exactly as they were. If you’ve ever wondered what hotel living felt like in the late 90s/early 2000s, wonder no longer—this place is a living museum. But honestly? I didn’t mind it. It has charm, just not the modern kind. Privacy Level: Maximum I didn’t see a single other guest my entire stay. Not one. So if you want absolute peace, quiet, and zero human interaction, this is your sanctuary. The staff and security are genuinely lovely—but they also leave you completely alone unless you ask for something, which I personally appreciated. The Apartment Itself Spacious with a kitchen, dining area, living space, and balcony. Very DIY. Think: “you can relax here, but also… good luck.” The facilities are dated, visibly worn, and at times “under construction,” particularly in the corridors. The kitchen feels more suited for long-term stays, and the bathroom definitely remembers the early 2000s fondly. The TV is modern, the A/C works, and once the water pressure fixed itself after Night 1, showers were fine. A Note on Safety… of the Appliances The electric stovetop had some questionable wiring—I got a little tingly current running through me when I touched it. Not in a romantic way. More in an “oh, that’s electricity” way. Breakfast: A Highlight Breakfast was a delight—delivered to my door every morning between 8:00 and 8:45am. Good portions, a mix of European-style options, fruit, and drinks. I genuinely felt special receiving it every morning. (Just note: no breakfast on weekends, but the price is reasonable enough that it’s not a dealbreaker.) Wi-Fi & Reception Wi-Fi was initially a challenge from my room in the annex, but once I asked the staff for the correct password, it worked fine. Reception is chilled and helpful—day or night. Housekeeping only happens if you request it. Otherwise, you’re left in peace. Security Strict about logging visitors, which I appreciate. It feels like a safe place, and the guards are friendly and professional. The Overall Experience Is it perfect? No. Does it need investment? Yes. Does the wiring need prayer? Also yes. Should the owner consider a renovation? Absolutely. But despite all that, I liked staying here. It gave me: privacy, space, peace - I cant say quiet because you can hear the planes going overhead from the airport. but i got used to them. sufficient security, lovely staff, and an excellent location. I loved my time in Accra, and this apartment gave me a calm home base between adventures. Just don’t expect luxury or modern hotel standards—this is a 3-star apartment complex that does exactly what a 3-star place should do. If you’re self-sufficient, easygoing, and looking for space and quiet, this is a solid choice. If you want polished finishes, daily housekeeping, and flawless facilities—you’ll need to look elsewhere.

I enjoyed my stay. The facility is well kept and in a very good location with easy access to all kinds of activities. Security is very high and the staff are friendly.

J'ai séjourné à l'hôtel The Pelican Hotel dans les Cantonments pour un voyage d'affaires de six ‑ nuit (Salle standard). L'hôtel est très bon – Les cantons sont un quartier sûr, tranquille et bien connecté ‑, proche de plusieurs ambassades, bureaux d'entreprise et de bons restaurants. La chambre standard était propre, le lit confortable et le climatisation fonctionnait efficacement – essentiel pour le climat d'Accra. Wi ‑Fi était assez stable pour les e-mails, les appels vidéo et les transferts de fichiers lumineux, bien que les vitesses baissent légèrement le soir. Le petit déjeuner était simple, mais satisfaisant, avec des fruits frais, des œufs, des toasts et du café local. La chambre, tout en étant propre, se sentait un peu datée – le meuble avait une portée visible, et la pression de l'eau dans la douche fluctuait. Il n'y a pas de bureau approprié dans la chambre standard; j'ai dû utiliser une petite table latérale pour mon ordinateur portable, qui n'était pas idéal pour un long séjour d'affaires.

Beautiful environment and especially great vibe at the pool and restaurant area. In the evenings they play some music and it’s a lovely place to relax and enjoy if you don’t feel like going out. You can have a drink and they even have shisha if you like. The waitress Catherine at breakfast time was absolutely lovely! Warm and helpful and friendly, we really missed her when she wasn’t around on the weekend. The one thing I didn’t like about our stay was that some of the front desk staff seemed to have a bit of an attitude towards us because we had extended multiple times and chose to do so through trip as it’s cheaper than the USD rates that the hotel charges directly. They said that what we paid through trip was too little however, we didn’t make those rates so I found that a bit rude. The whole hotel operates on USD rates so for value added services like laundry or transportation it can be very overpriced.

1. The room is clean, the space is larger than described on the booking. The bathroom is very large and has a bathtub to relax. 2. The staff here are extremely good from the security guard to the room service friends! I feel very interested ^^ 3. The swimming pool and hotel grounds are spacious and airy. The surrounding area is on top of McCarthy Hills, so the scenery is very poetic and quiet, suitable for the holiday^^ The disadvantages are: 4. For example, a little far from the main road, you need to call Uber. 5. The hotel seems to have been open for a long time, all the equipment does not look very new. Still good to use but if you ask higher here it's not satisfactory. There is only one power outlet near the headboard😞 6. The hotel seems to be quite empty, I have been here for two days and have not met any guests but me. I'm alone a swimming pool is also a bit...bored🥺

It was a fantastic experience! From the moment I arrived, the staff was warm, welcoming, and attentive to every detail. The hotel’s vibrant, stylish decor truly lives up to its name, giving off a lively yet relaxing atmosphere. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The food was also impressive, with a variety of delicious options that catered to both local and international tastes. With a very jovial chef and warm smile creating you as you walk in. The hotel’s proximity to the airport made it incredibly convenient for my stay, yet it still felt like a retreat away from the city’s hustle. Whether you’re visiting for business or leisure, this hotel offers a perfect mix of comfort and style. I’d definitely stay here again!

L'hôtel est très proche de l'aéroport et un centre commercial se trouve à moins de dix minutes à pied, ce qui est très pratique. Je retirerais un point pour les installations, qui sont visiblement vétustes. En revanche, le service était impeccable : très aimable et attentionné. Le ménage quotidien était excellent et le service de blanchisserie rapide et abordable. Ne faites pas attention au désordre sur la photo où je fais ma valise ; c'est en réalité très propre. Le dernier jour, il pleuvait. Au moment de notre départ, la réceptionniste nous a demandé si nous allions à l'aéroport. Nous avons répondu par l'affirmative et, sans hésiter, ils ont organisé un transfert privé pour nous y emmener, si bien que nous n'avons quasiment pas été mouillés. Le petit-déjeuner était délicieux et les plats de viande et de légumes changeaient tous les jours. En résumé, c'est un excellent choix pour les voyages d'affaires.
