Park Tower, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Buenos Aires

Microcentro Buenos Aires|À 0.3km de la Plaza San Martín
I stayed at the Park Tower, a Luxury Collection Hotel in 2011 and it was great. Unfortunately, 12 years later, the hotel is really rundown, poorly kept and my corner suite was terrible. I went to Buenos Aires to attend the Panamerican Congress of Ophthalmology and stayed 4 nights, March 16-20, 2023. Despite being Platinum, I could not check in to a room upon arrival to the hotel at 12:30 pm. So we went to the pool, but it was at the Sheraton Hotel next door. The pool chairs were very dirty looking and every single chair was stained; everything at the pool looked dirty, paint was peeling off surrounding walls and accessories were rusted. My room was extremely hot as the air conditioning did not work. When I asked someone to check the air conditioning, the person who came said to close the curtains if I wanted the room to cool off. What is the point of paying for a corner suite with windows on 2 sides if I have to keep the black out curtains closed? The shower flooded the bathroom floor and the person who came to check said it was fine. The shower flooded the bathroom floor daily. Housekeeping had to be called to make up the room every day in late afternoon. Towels were removed but not replaced in the same numbers. I had to use extra towels to dry the bathroom floor daily. The washcloths were also not replaced after the first day. There was a coffee machine but the coffee pods were not replaced. There was no turn down service. I paid for club access and found out that the club was at the Sheraton next door and only open from 2 pm to 8 pm, so no breakfast! The quality of the food was poor. There was one restaurant in the Park Tower hotel that served breakfast which was pretty good. Despite the elevator button indicating “Business Center” on the second floor of Park Tower Hotel, there is no Business Center at Park Tower - it is also at the Sheraton next door. Service is generally poor across the board - the concierge did not know whether the restaurant served lunch! He also would not call me a taxi to go to the Rural Convention Center when I asked. I am not sure why they are there if they don’t provide concierge services. I love Marriott Hotels and this hotel definitely does not meet the expectations or requirements of a Marriott Hotel. It is badly in need of renovations, repairs and personnel who are willing to provide good service. I enjoyed Buenos Aires very much despite staying in a terrible hotel because of fabulous restaurants such as Don Julio, Elena, Cabaña Las Lilas, Tango show and dinner at El Querandi and the beautiful city my friends and I saw in our private tour - Maria Corbalan Bespoke Tours provide fabulous service and should be a model for the Park Tower Hotel.

Well located 15 minutes walk from Plaza de Mayo, 10 minutes from the Boquebus terminal and just 5 from bus stops and Calle Florida. Perfect. Comfortable if slightly small rooms/bathrooms with the usual business type facilities. TV only in Spanish. No coffee in room or free water supplied. Basic but reasonable breakfast available from 6.30am so good for early departures. No on-site restaurant but the restaurant next to the hotel is very good and hotel guests are also pointed to the hotel opposite.

Checking in was rather smooth. For those a wee bit more tech savvy than I, would find the QR code style of filling the required information a breeze. We used this hotel as a base so that we could leave our one luggage behind as we travelled to various parts of Argentina with our cabin bags. All in all we spent a good 8 nights at this hotel. The staff was great. From the doorman to front desk to kitchen and housekeeping....excellent service from all. Special mention has to go to Gaston. His warm and friendly demeanour made us feel valued and at home. The breakfast is nothing to shout about as it is basically the same everyday but it is enough to keep you going till lunch. The staff at the breakfast lounge were on the ball and kept everything topped up and tables were cleaned constantly. Kudos to them. We had the chance to try out 3 different rooms. #807 had a smell and I hope it's been eradicated. Had to clean the aircon filter as the machine was choking with a thick layer of dust; worked like a charm after the wash down. The handle bar for the bath tub was loose and dislodged from the wall. Told Gaston about it and hopefully it was fixed. #804 was not bad but I had to also clean the aircon fliter..same scenario. Also the same story with the handle bar at the bathtub. #206 was a good room. Aircon filters need no cleaning. All the rooms were clean and comfortable. Room and toilet amenities were more than adequate. Rooms were spacious. The location is awesome. Walking distance to most places of interest. There's lots of mini supermarkets all around. Directly opposite the hotel is a great place for 'parilla' (barbecue meats). Quite reasonably priced and it closes at midnight. If you're dying for some greens/salads...about 200 m left of the hotel, as you exit, is a diner-like establishment call D'Italia at the intersection. Their salad options may not be huge but they do serve a good portion of it. Note: money changers are aplenty at Florida street (Pedestrian only street) about a 5 minute walk from the hotel. Good rates. Changed a few times from different guys and have not had a bad experience. I would normally give a 3* or a 3.5* rating but the entire staff made up for it. We will be heading back to Argentina and the Dazzler Maipu is definitely one of our options. Highly Recommended!
