Hotel très bien placé pour faire la visite de la capital à pied..personnel très agréable, et au petits soins. Le petit déjeuner très copieux et diversifié. Chambre avec vue mer, possibilité de boire un verre sur la terrasse piscine..Un petit effort pour la langue française serait le petit plus !!!

I was excited at the reviews from others, but it didn't live up to our expectations, unfortunately. The property looks great, has been mostly updated, and is well maintained. We had a terrace executive suite on the 3rd floor with a hot tub. However, there were several issues. Room: Water pressure is low and barely gets hot. I asked the front desk to look into the water pressure and nothing was done or followed up on. Due to the construction next door, it was very noisy from 8:45 am (even on Saturday), which also eliminated any privacy on the terrace. There's no sound insulation so we heard every person and conversation happening outside the room in the hallway. No face towels were provided. You have to ask for an iron/ironing board. They don't speak English so I had to walk down to the basement with the maintenance guy to find one, which we kept in the room. Staff: Slow, unattentive, has difficulty with closing out checks. We waited for at least 10 minutes every time we wanted to close a bill. You have to get up and find them to order, etc. They don't monitor the dining room or rooftop bar sufficiently to check on you. Property: Well-positioned to walk to a lot of restaurants, etc. The gym is horrible. It's the size of a bathroom and contains a bike with a fan-operated by a battery, which wasn't charged, a broken treadmill, one medicine ball, and free weights. Rooftop bar & Pool: Some nights movies are projected on a large silkscreen. The pool has no shade whatsoever. There are a few lounge chairs with no more than 2 umbrellas. Prepare to get burned. They don't have consistent policies for parties, closing and noise. One party was allowed to go until 2 am and we had to endure every conversation still taking place well after 2:30. I wouldn't stay here again.

Au vu des photos et avis, nous avons réservé 2 nuits pour visiter le quartier colonial et Saint Domingue. Mauvais surprise rien qu'en arrivant dans le secteur de l'hôtel, on aurait bien demandé au taxi de ne pas nous laisser là...mais bon aller, on rentre. Accueil sympa et lobby propre. Pour la chambre c'est autre chose, un box avec un hublot, un lit inconfortable et une salle de bain de 1.5 m carré, tellement petite qu'ils ont découpé la porte pour faire passer le bord du lavabo. Nous sortons, ça pue, c'est sale et on se fait agresser de toutes parts, franchement on ne se sent vraiment pas en sécurité, on fait vite fait les spots à voir et on rentre. Nuit horrible, hôtel bruyant et mal fréquenté, enfin sauf si vous voulez de la compagnie..., aboiements toute le nuit , odeurs... on n'a que très peu dormi ! Nous avions informé que nous ne resterions pas les 2 nuits , le gérant fait l'étoné et bien évidemment ne nous propose aucun dédommagement sur la seconde nuit payée..bref je pourrais continuer, mais ça n'en vaut pas la peine, aller ailleurs, j'en resterai là

Hotel Dona Elvira was recommended to my family who planned an overnight trip to see the sights of Santo Domingo’s colonial zone. This hotel did not disappoint. Aesthetically, it’s gorgeously historic. Its common area is open-air, covered and cooled by a magnificent mango tree with a pool in the middle (I’m not sure if the pool is meant for swimming, though it is clean and clear). Our room was large, very clean, air-conditioned, and well stocked with toiletries, towels, etc. Great, filling breakfast options are included in the room rate with a supper menu offered as well (not included in the rate). I found the staff to be VERY friendly, helpful, and accommodated some small changes to one of our room reservations without hesitation. We had a light, casual conversation with the owner during which he touched on the hotel’s history. I really do wish I could have spent more time in S.D. and taken in more of this quaint little boutique gem of a hotel.
